Default hood unlatches while driving

I have a 1963 corvette that has a problem with the hood unlatching while driving. Is anyone familiar with this problem and possibly a solution. Thanks, Ed Smith 562 233 6836

Simple solution Ed. Loosen the nuts holding the male parts of the latch, lower the male parts maybe 1 turn, secure nuts and try. Bill. PS, also make sure the 2 rubber bumpers are not up to high, they are used to align the rear portion of the hood with the fenders.

With the hood open on your car, pull the hood release handle and let it go. Observe the latches. Now, pull the hood release and push the handle back in instead of just releasing it. Observe the latches again. Any difference? Bet you need some cable lube. My cable is gummed up enough that I have to push the hood release handle back in. I guess it's one more thing on the list for this winter!

The Male pin might also have a flat "worn" spot on it, so make sure its not in the same position after adjusting it.

The cable ends, that go from side to side and the hood pull (brass dodads) can be adjusted for just the right range of movement. While in there, put some light oil on the levers on the female portion. 66L-72, don't go there! Dennis

Default Thanks to all!

It was only 10 minutes after I made my plead for help and had my phone ringing with an answer. I wish all my problems in life could be so easy to fix. Thanks to everyones comments and solutions. I did have a flat spot on my male part and it was screwed in too far. I also went ahead and added a light film of grease to it. The cable and doodads looked to work properly. I took it for a test drive and had no issues with it unlatching. This forum is just great!!

Thanks again to all.
