I have hooked up the throttle and made an air cleaner for it. The road test went well. It is very responsive and feels like quite a few more ponies than the old carter carb. It is definately running too rich when I hammer on it. I can correct this at the dyno. Here's a few pics of the air system. It will do until I can get a hold of an original unit at the right price.

You did not mention the original HP of your motor. Is there an advertised HP increase rating quoted from MFG?

How do you think this unit rates to an original FI unit?

Thanks..Waiting to see the finished results after the dyno.

Great job posting photos as you progress along..

The engine is the original #'s 360hp built to the specs from '63. The original rochester FI unit was missing when I bought the car. It had the 340hp set-up with the correct 461X heads. It has the 097 duntov solid lifter cam and the correct domed pistons. I hadn't dyno'd it before so guess it was about 340hp (not sure what the BHP would have been). Now it has a set of aluminum vortec heads and the AZ Speed FI unit. The vortec heads alone should add a few HP. I'm guessing with both changes it probably added 30 to 50 hp and should get far better fuel economy. I know it is way easier to start than it ever was with the AFB carb and far more responsive. I will post any dyno results I get.

what are you running for ignition advance and a/f ratios?

Ignition timing and A/F ratio (via injector pulse) are set at every 100 RPMs from idle to red-line at every KPa of MAP from 20 to 100 so as you can imagine there is a lot of set-up to do (about 200 settings for each). AZ Speed provided me with a base tune that got the engine started. The timing curve seems good (9.14 degress at idle to 35 degrees all in) however the A/F ratio was way too rich in the 0 to 1200 rpm range. I have leaned it out and it idles OK and revs up smoothgly. It's about as good as I can get it without a dyno. I do have a wide band 02 sensor so it will put itself into closed loop mode at idle and while cruising above 2000 rpms. The A/F targets for this are set at about 13.5/1. Below is the A/F settings (injector pulse in milliseconds) for the 200 - 1200 rpm range:

0.732 0.427 0.671 0.916 1.160 1.526 1.770 1.953 2.808
0.366 0.427 0.671 0.977 1.221 1.648 1.892 2.075 2.991
0.427 0.427 0.671 1.038 1.282 1.770 2.014 2.319 3.174
0.427 0.427 0.732 1.099 1.465 1.892 2.136 2.441 3.418
0.427 0.427 0.732 1.221 1.709 2.136 2.319 2.563 3.601
0.427 0.427 0.793 1.282 2.014 2.441 2.441 2.808 3.784
0.427 0.427 0.977 1.038 1.404 2.502 2.625 2.991 3.967
0.427 0.427 0.916 0.732 1.526 2.502 2.747 3.174 4.211
0.427 0.427 0.793 0.977 2.014 2.563 2.869 3.418 4.456

Did you set your injector pulse widths using A/F values or just modify the pulse width table?
Just in case you would like to compare, here is the stock GM base pulse width table for the same range of values.

Thanks Charles. My tables are reversed to yours. Mine has 200 at the top on the left hand side and 1200 at the bottom. At first glance yours sure seems a lot richer than mine.

interesting... my A/F ratio is depicted (and set) differently; not sure i could figure out the 'pulse width' scheme...

Yes, your pulse width table looks to be a lot leaner than the stock GM table. I reduced the stock values considerably using a wide band O2 sensor as a guide, but yours is still much leaner than mine. What does your 1200-3600 table look like?

Here is my 1400 - 3600 table. I haven't really touched this one much as the O2 reads around 13.5 in this range.

Perhaps fuel pressure and injector size plays a big role in it as well? I'm not sure what my injector size is but I am running 45 psi fuel pressure.

AS&M should be able to tell you that info. mine are LS2s and are rated at 24# at 45psi.

I believe the injectors are rated at 24 lbs/hr @43.5 psi.
Correct fuel pressure for the stock GM Ram Jet fuel pressure regulator is between 41 and 47 psi. Mine runs about 45 psi.

Before I got tuning software I attempted to improve fuel economy by using an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I was able to increase cruise mileage about 10% by lowering the fuel pressure to around 38 psi.

I compared your 1400-3600 BPW table to the stock Ram Jet and it runs about 30%-40% leaner than the GM.

i bet they will fix it. jim

Could it be that he bought a prototype? Maybe they don't have another unit to give him.

Any recent updates on this?

I've been following it, and am curious as to your final assessment/satisfaction - (relative) ease of installation, final tuning, etc.

Hope it's going well!

I have it running pretty good but need to get it to a dyno for the final tuning. I took it for a run on one of the rare nice days we have had around here and it is running way too lean in the 1400 to 3800 range. Pulled a plug and it was white. Just waiting for some decent weather to get it over to the dyno. So far I am happy with the results. It sure does start easier. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice so will probably richen up the A/F and try again. I will post with results and pics once I get it to the point I want it.

Do you have the wide band working with the injection system yet?

OK, the project is officially finished. It is running great and looking even better. Here are the final pics with all the stock chrome back on.
