What Is The Best Model Corvette Ever Made ?
Just thinking after reading another post and trying to think what the best model Corvette is Bias aside.
My Vote * Early solid axle with 6 cylinder is not as attractive as 56-60 and only a 6 cylinder.
*56-60 I love the look but lakes the handling which is much needed.
*61-62 Has a Mid year rear ?
*63-67 Has better driver feel and has BB power but lacks the 56-60 Looks
*68-82 Never driven one. Looking better now it's getting older especially the chrome bumper model but my wife calls it the **** star model ?
*83- mid 90's better as it got newer. Auto in a great handling car was strange.
*C5's best buy in the world at the moment. Handles grouse and goes like the clappers especially in Z06 form. But the soft nose looks a little RX7 like ?
*C6's Goes like a rapped ape and even tells you when your doing over 1 lateral G on the windshield. Chiseled front is better looking than C5.
My vote is C6 for a well rounded car, C1 for looks and the C2 for unstoppable BB torque ?

I have to say C6. I have had every body style and my C6 is by far the best all around Vette I've had. My next choice would be a midyear. I'm not thrilled with the 68 and up and the early cars are hard steering and don't do anything exceptional. But they do look cool.

I have owned every generation except the C4 and every one of them has a place in my heart. My 09 Z06 is the overall best. Drive anywhere in comfort, while getting 30 MPG on the Interstate and will pass 99.9999% of the cars out there, with ease.

Burning Brakes
New model years come out about midway into the previous year. 2011 Corvettes have been out for a few months now.
Has anyone seen the 2011 ZR-1. BADA$$!! The glass insert in the hood, plus the brakes are bigger around than my waist. If only I had 110k sitting around...
However, any rich a-hole can buy a new Vette. It takes a real car guy and Corvette enthusiast to buy an older vette. My vote is a tie between a 63 SWC fuelie and a 67 427 Tri-power roadster. Side pipes, of course.

I just bought a low mileage C6 Z06 and it is an absolute blast to drive. 505 hp and a track ready suspension. If you have never driven one, you need to. It makes my old big block feel sluggish ,
Still love the old ones. Solid axles get all the looks. Mid years have a timeless style and are great drivers. The early 3rd generation sharks (especially with big blocks) are great drivers. After 72 they got watered down in both appearance and performance. C4's get no respect but really ushered in the modern performance era. C5 is a great touring car, fuel efficient and fast. The C6 Z06 and the ZR1 are tremendous performers.

general chuck yaeger was once quoted on this same subject, his reply was the best corvette made is the "newest one made"
im sure he was speaking about all the adjectival phrases we have all come to know like it hugs the road like it were on rails, it makes you feel that the car is a part of the driver, etc. etc....
all this begs the question of what does "best" mean? if you are talking creature comforts and new technology, that's one thing. if you are talking timeless styling and visual impact, i guess it is subject to personal opinion. the different generation corvettes usually epitomize the technology of the day. i for one do not like the standard headlights on the newer cars versus the hidden look. that is one aspect of the new styling that evidentally had to go by the wayside, but was always a vette feature.
i suppose if i had to pick a vette for my daily driver, it would be a newer one, whenever at a car show and when looking over a sea of corvettes, the ones that really stand out are the c1 and c2's
you can park a c2 behind the porta john's to hide it and it will still draw a crowd of on lookers and some have never seen one but their enthusiasm over the styling and retro technology is evident
i guess i would say that all the vettes over the years are the best ones especially those that are still on the road but then again im' biased as i have never seen one i didn't like from the 53's to the newest beast available.....jmo....

There are few cars more distinctive than a C1 rolling down the highway....my very favorite (any year). Hard to get into, rides like a tractor, temperamental at times, not screamingly fast but everybody that looks at it wants to own it.
I drove a forum members C6 Z06 on a two hour trip last year and it was just too damn pleasurable...I felt like I didn't deserve it. Press the gas and the only way you know you're heading into triple-digit speeds is the heads-up display as you glide along.
My second favorite Corvette.
I would have added the '67 BB Coupe with sidepipes but a friend used to regularly thrash me in one back 'in the day' on the backroads of Virginia Beach. The sight of one still throws me into 'fight or flight' mode. Just intimidating brutish looking pieces of American muscle.

I guess there is a reason that I have keep my 2001 C-5 Z06. But every Corvette Good Bad and Ugly attracts my attention.

Hard to say but I have always loved the 67 BB. As far as the best, only time will tell as some grow in popularity and others drop. I currently enjoy my 70 LT-1 convertible "**** star" but I still get chills when I walk by the 64 in my garage. It needs everything and does not run but he lines and history of the C1 and C2's still do it for me. Gotta love those classic Corvettes and the newer ones continue the ground beater legacy.
