I had one custom made for my car. The top goes up and down and it's removable. It's a 6 point with swing out side bars.

Put one in my 69 race car. Started with just a roll bar then added the full cage. Anyway, it's the same frame. The main hoop will attach about half way up the kick up in the rear. Back bracing goes to the frame rail above the rear end. At this point you have pretty much assured that the weakest point on the car is just forward of the kick up, so if you plan to use if for serious racing a couple of forward braces are critical. Better would be a forward hoop and bracing into the engine compartment. Find an old copy of GMs "Chevy Power" for full instructions on a good cage.

I've seen a nice looking coupe at a few shows.
He has a 4-point roll bar........
.....firmly attached to the floor with lag bolts.

Has anyone tried welding stubs on the frame, lowering the body onto the chassis, then welding the cage to the stubs protruding through the holes in the floor? Will this pass NHRA tech?

Rollbar? ROLLBAR? Are you kidding? What's next, seatbelts?
Just kidding! As you can all see, the windshield frame and vent window frames will not support the weight of a C2 convertible.
If you're running below 11 seconds at the strip, you're required to have one. For everyone else, they're probably a good safety upgrade. Just be sure that the attachment points are to the frame and not to the birdcage.

That is how I mounted the roll bar on my 63 Convertible. Works great and allows the bar to be removed. I install mine for autocross events and remove it for cruising. No problem with the soft top.
Doubtful that NHRA would allow it to pass tech.

When at the track I used a 1" spacer under the carb and I install extension on hood latches to lift rear of the hood. That shot was literally an hour after making 9 sec passes at Bowling Green as we pulled into the Corvette Assy. Plant.
Sort of a nasty pic back there but you can get the idea. There are stubs welded to frame that come out horizontal and the crossbar attaches at all junctures with 4 bolts through a flat cloverleaf plate.
The main hoop attaches the same way with vertical stubs. The bar is moly and weighs 26 lbs. Took a LOT of work to get the soft top able to function as well as make sidebars work with top up and down and make it all removable too.
