intake manifold casting # 3844468??
I'm looking at buying an original cast iron intake for my 1964 327 300hp roadster. I put in a ad locally and had people send me casting numbers so I could get the correct intake. I got a reply with the 3844468 # .......I can see that the first 3 numbers are correct but I can't find the last 3 numbers anywhere online..... 457 as the last three indicates a 250hp application.......459 is for a 300hp(which is what I'm looking for) the 461 is an aluminium 350hp application........what's up with this 3844468 casting number.

The part # you need for the L75 is either 3852569 (casting # 3799349) if it's an early '64.
Or
You need part # 3844457 (casting # 3844457) for later model '64. Same as used on the 250hp base model.

When I look at corvetteworld.com they state that the 3844457 is for the 250hp and the 384459 is for the 300hp the 3799349 is the early 300hp.....are the 457 and the 459 identical intakes?

I am getting my information from the "Corvette Parts Interchange Manual" for 1963-1967 by Paul A. Herd.
Not sure which of these two are correct, but I can only assume that one of them has that last digit incorrect. Those with the 'actual' 300hp intake will chime in. Wonder if it might be where the casting numbers are being confused with the 7 and 9? I know some actual castings I've viewed are not necessarily the best.

Note: I am not a paid spokesperson, nor will I realize any payday for mentioning Paul's book. It's just plain good.....

I see that corvetteworld has that for the '64 and '65.

There was a discussion on the NCRS forum recently regarding the various intakes for '64 327/300 cars:

Hope this helps.

Just looked it up in the NCRS latest judging manual for the '64 and the number they have is 3844459.
So it looks like I have found my first glitch with Paul's document and will make a mod to it based on your thread.
Good luck,

Are you sure the 3844468 is cast iron? If it's aluminum it might be 3844463 where the 3 looks like an 8 and that would be a 63-64 400hp 409 intake.

It's cast iron.I saw a picture of the intake and the 8 was well defined. Thanks for the reply. I'm not interested in installing an intake that's not correct for my car BUT I'm still curious about the intake since I went to alot of chevy web sites and could not find the casting number at any of the sites
