Default Help on installing bushings in Rear Sway Bar for '65 BB

All,

I need some help on installing new bushings on my rear sway bar of my '65 BB. The old bushings came out so easy (obviously because they were worn) but I am having trouble installing the new bushings. I have greased the hell out of the bushing and sway bar hole but can't get the bushing in.

Can anyone offer any suggested solutions?

Are you dealing with an original GM/Corvette, or an aftermarket bar? If it's an orig. the link bushings just push in. Tell us more. Dennis

Good question! I just realized I have an aftermarket bar, which explains why the bushings don't fit. Sorry for the misfire. I gues I am looking for an orginal GM sway bar now.

Whatever bar you need make sure that it matches the front bar. This is necessary for proper handling. If you have questions others can help!

Also good idea to match the bushings

Am I correct on this? Front Stabilizer Bar measures 7/8" in diameter. Rear Sway Bar measures 9/16" in diameter.

Default Stabilizer Bar

The front bar for a big block is 7\8". The bushings that bolt to the frame were difficult on mine. Had to use longer bolts to pull it up then change them to the short bolts one at a time. Now that it is on, I think it is upside down. Would like to see some pictures of one installed correctly!

My 65 BB car has a 15/16 front bar. I just went out and tried a 7/8" open end wrench around it...no go.

What picture is it you want? I can maybe get one posted. Mine is an unrestored 30 year sitting car. Just got it off the trailer this past week.

My 65 BB car has 15/16 front and 9/16 rear bars using the open end wrench measuring technology.

That's the F-40 bar, which was only available on the 396 and the fuelie.

Photo below shows the correct rear bar installation.
