This is the point the thread will turn into political diatribe.

Hmmm...

I don't see it as a having any sort of political swipe at the Obama administration, at all. People are just trying to read something into it that isn't there.

As I seem to recall, GM kind of owes the Obama administration a credit for continuing to exist.

Something the government has continued to throw in their faces, like the investigations into other recent GM ads featuring the new CEO talking about repaying the govt funds ahead of time (which was definitely a shady move by GM). There's no love there.

Anyway, I love that ad. What's happened to NASA over the past 30 years is an absolute travesty. I love watching footage from the space race...and the ZR1.

Sorry I have to disagree. While I like the ad, I am 50 yrs old and grew up with the whole Apollo program. GM needs to appeal to younger people, not us. They are thinking backwards again, not ahead. This is what got them into trouble in the first place. To be sure I showed it to my 20 yr old son and he thought the ad was " boring except when they showed the Vette take off spinning" He didnt get the whole space/rocket connection. Granted, they arent going for 20 yr olds, but they should be going for 30 yr olds and I am sure they would say the same thing. They need younger thinking or they are going to go belly up...again.

Not sure how many of GM's true target demographic for the bread-and-butter cars would be in the market for a ZR1 anyway.

But you can't get people excited about an Aveo.

However the people who can swing a ZR1 are probably more likely to be kids, teenagers, or adults of the Apollo era.

And yes, I will proudly drive my vette to NASA tomorrow when I go to work

Youre probably right Jeff. I couldnt find any data on the demographics that breaks down the model year of corvette that they own, but for all corvettes it breaks down like this: 48yrs and younger 34%, 49 and older 66%. It would be interesting to see how it breaks down by model year but thats probably a closely held secret by GM. I still say that GM needs to appeal to younger people. Maybe the ZR1 isnt a good example. Heres the link for those interested. Lots of interesting stats.
