1963 Glove box Door
Has anyone installed the face plate on a 1963 Glove box door. I have the back plate and all hardward and realize I have to drill out the rivets.........how does the new face attached to the old back plate. I can not duplicate the rivets and am not NCRS minded. I just want it to look original from the front..........

63 doors are one year only and are made of fiber glass. 64-67 are the metal ones that have the rivets

Is it possible to install the face of the 1963 reproduction on the backing of a medal plate which most likely was a 64-67 that I bought to replace the "63 door

If you have a 63 and want a fiberglass 63 door, you will need to spend the bucks to get one. One year only fiberglass front and back.
If you have 64-7 door and want to replace the insert, you can do this without drilling out the back rivets. Just remove the emblem from the door and trim a new insert to a size just larger than the opening in the door frame. Slide the trimmed insert in from the front. It will take you some time to get it in position, but it will stay in place with a new emblem installed.

Thanks to both of you for the response.......I will just order the replacement door with the fiberglass back and pay the piper but it will be correct to look at and a simple bolt on........thanks for your help.......

For a "correct" '63 door - buy only the front face (sold separately by most vendors) and bond that to your original door back.
No need to drill rivets, etc. If you don't have an orignal '63-only glove door backing, they show up from time-to-time on ebay.
I've picked up several over the years - usually under $50.
Hope this helps,

I had purchased a 63 glove box door, but it is just the front. The door currently on my car is a later style. I am now looking for a used 63 door to use to put the new front on. My question is how do you attach the front? Do you use a mastic of some sort. Is there a trick to getting the old front off? Thanks for any help. Ed

The face is usually crazed, cracked, or broken.
Finding a original 63 glove box door in mint condition is next to impossible.

Like others have said, 63 face was just glued on. Here is a link to some photos of mine when I had it apart. From experience, when clamping the face to the door, do not over tighten the clamps. If you do, you end up with a cracked face.
