Newbie needs help with possible 67 C2 purchase
I found this 67 Corvette in California. I know it's not a numbers matching car. It has a 350, hard top (different color), power windows, AT, and AC. It was painted about 15 years ago (original color).
The guy is asking 39k, which seems to be high in todays market.
This would be the second Corvette I'm looking at. Thanks to fellow forum members, they helped me avoid a pieced together 63.
I would appreciate your opinion on this car, including what appears to be not original and approximate current value of the car.

Always check out the fundamentals first (birdcage and frame). Auto trans is a big detractor and without the OEM motor I agree with most of my brethren on the issue of price---high 20s to very low 30s. Make sure all the gauges work. Ask if the rear wheel bearings have been replaced, as that is an expensive issue to deal with and most owners avoid doing it at all cost unless forced to. Drive it to check the performance of the engine and the brakes. Get it up on a hoist and see if there are any leaks, etc.

Get an experienced C-2 person from your area to look at the car on a lift. What 350 engine is in it, has the trans been rebuilt. Make sure EVERYTHING works, especially the A/C as it can be costly to make it right, among other things, not just a couple of things. Ask yourself is you really want/need A/C and automatic trans. You didn't say if it had PS. If it all checks out, make a CASH offer. You want to drive it and enjoy it, not wonder if something is going to erupt on you. Dennis

Depending on the condition, I don't think 39K is out of line if it is truly a California, no rust car. And if the frame is good, mechanically sound, etc. I also agree if you don't know much about these cars you should get help from an experienced Corvette person to inspect it for you.

Okay, look on used corvettes.com for a green 67 l-79. She is asking 48k but I know she will come way down. Chicago area. I would pass on this car for 39k

You need to remember that if you buy the car, you will eventually sell it. The automatic is a big detractor, more so, in my opinion, than the NOM engine. It is a very nice looking car but there are a lot of C2 hardware for sale these days. Be patient.

Trust me, you can live with the tranny. My right arm gets PLENTY of exercise from my other two Corvettes and their 6 speeds. Some times it's just nice to slide the tranny into Drive and just go for a cruise. Try it, you'll like it!!

I can't seem to find a decent C2 convertible here in the Bay Area. All the good ones are going for over 40k. I really want to stick to low 30's.
I can live with a Auto tranny, but it is a good point to know that they don't resell well. I plan to keep the car for 5-10 years. But at some point it will be for sale.
Something to think about I guess.

The hell with all of the other complaints, its got air conditioning, buy it. You'll never regret an A/C Vette and likely often rue one that is not. Its a lot easier to replace an automatic with a 4 speed or decent automatic (3 speeds at least) than to add factory A/C. A/C probably adds more to resell than automatic detracts. Would for me as an A/C Vette is one that you would be happy to take out everyday and one that is not you would be reluctant to drive on many.
39 K sounds a bit high unless the car really checks out well, especially as not one of the "hotter" colors.

Do you 'love' this car? Especially int./ext color... If not, then move on. Price is not the most important consideration, in the long run. Be patient, or repent in leisure.
