Default Back to Original color or not

Good morning guys

Here is my dilemma, I recently purchased a 1 owner 66 Coupe that has had a respray in its past. The original color was Milano Maroon. I am doing a "Frame" on restoration" Here is my question I do not plan on ever selling the car or going NCRS even tough the previous owner did not do any modification other then paint all numbers are matching.

I am extremely partial to Elkhart Blue. Due to the originality of the Coupe I feel that it would be an injustice to change the color I am torn regarding this decision

Any advice / opinion would be greatly appreciated

If you are not going to sell the car and don't care about NCRS, paint it the color you want.

Elkhart Blue is a 67 color, it was not available in 66, however, if you want it and you are not concerned with judging, I would say go for it, just keep in mind, that it will more than likely, reduce the value of the car.

I agree, nobody is crawling in your car and looking to see if the trim tag is correct, paint it the color you want.

I'm in the same boat your in too. I am looking at a #'s matching car that is in its original color, with a tank sticker. But the color is not my cup of tea, Green. I'm torn between Silver/red and Elkhart/teal as well. This will be my last midyear to have and I just want one that is somewhat rare in appearance. If it feels good, I guess we might as well go on and do it.

If you are never going to sell it or have it judged, paint it the color that we will enjoy. You're the one who has to open that garage door and look at it so it may as well be the color of your choice!!

Bill, in spite of how things seem sometimes, cars do not have feelings or get offended. Further, Karma has bigger things to worry about than trying to balance any injustice you may create by changing the color of the car.

Do what will make you happy with the car. You can paint it any color you like every few years if you wish. Heck paint it Blue, refurbish the car to 100 point condition, and then drive it down to 85 point condition and repaint it a different color when you are ready.

Just don't let the car own you, or you will regret the 4 years you spent tracking the car, and the tens of thousands of $$ you spent refurbishing it.

I am somehow in the same situation. My car have a mint red paint.
The car is at the painters for for painting of the undercarriage and enginebay.
I have startet to think more and more to redo the car in its original colour wich is Daytona Blue. Its is not a easy decisison but i think i will keep it red

Why worry about original color. Paint it the color that you've always wanted and enjoy it. Shemp

Bill ..
Looks to be a pretty strong 'case' for a color change. .. Agree with the guys who say go with the color you want. In the end you'll have the best of both worlds...................the car.................and color! ..

I'm also looking to go against what the trim tag on my car says when it comes up for paint.

IMO unless the car is a real garage queen, you will outlive the paint job - so get the color you want.

You can always get another "factory" trim tag that matches the color you painted it.

I say paint it the color you want and enjoy it, my car is supposed to be Marlboro Maroon 988, but some one 30 years ago painted it Silver Pearl Lacquer 986. That's a cool color Lynndale Blue.

If you weren't going to restore and spend all that money I would say leave the color it is, but since you are going to restore it and paint it anyway put it back to original color and that will eliminate all the questions of WHY THIS, WHY THAT, WHY WHY WHY. I know because I was in the same dilemma, I went back to original color and it was the best thing i did. And my color was goldwood yellow not as nice as Milano maroon.

If you want to make it real exciting then flip a coin for color or put colors on papers, put the papers in a hat and draw out one and that is what you will paint it. Like you said you are not going to have it judged and not going to sell it so do what you want to it. It is your car. That is my $0.05 worth.

When I got my 67, it was not the correct color. It was originally Goodwood green, but decided to go with what color I wanted.

Do what you want, and heck if someone wants too, they can always put it back the original color.
