One colour i would stay away from is white.
Somebody ever seen a GS in black or Daytona Blue?
Go for a colour that not everybody else have.

As I am currently unable to pull up photos (or post them) on this site due to my workplace firewall I can tell you that seeing the real thing in person leans me toward that stunning Cadillac Blue. Too bad that wasn't a production Corvette colour.

I did mine in the Foyt/Cannon #003 '64 Sebring livery.

The first roadster was silver or Silver Blue at the college show debut, I only have b/w pics so can't tell for sure.
Mine is Porsche Guards Red. Original GS pilot Dick Guldstrand dug it. Hey, give him a call at the Burbank shop, he probably remembers. Or maybe you can find n old Fram Racing filter box, it had a picture of RP's entry in action.
What I'd like to do someday build an original coupe replica, maybe from a '64 (correct A-pillars and rear window). NO flares, 6" Halibrands with skinny tires, and WHITE.

Sunoco Blue and Yellow would be my choice. You may want to call Kevin McKay at Corvette Repair in NY. I think he may be able to help you identify "Sunoco Blue".

My D&D is Mecom Blue as the cars were painted when they ran at Nassau. I've been considering a new GS coupe and my current thinking is the old Sunoco Blue. The current Sunoco blue is darker than the one applied to chassis #1 the Penske car. Not sure when they changed the shade but I belive it happened back in the mid 80's. --- Ken McCorry

When they did the tribute Grand Sports in '96 I assume they drew their inspiration from GS #003. I have a question about the red fender hash marks that they had. I don't recall any of the originals having them, did they?

The fender marks are called "Rookie Stripes" I believe that the denote a driver that has not previously raced at LeMans. I know Shelby used them to tell his Cobras apart for the crew.. I do not recall them on GS vettes

Chassis's 3,4 and 5 when raced at Nassau had a stripe from the hood edge to the nose on the passenger side just off center. Chassis #3 car #65 was dark blue, Chassis #4 car #50 was white and Chassis #5 car #80 was red . It was used I was told to help identify the cars to pit crews and lap counters. Neat memories from a 15 year old when I saw the cars back in early 1964 !!! -----------Ken McCorry

When Bob Paterson owned and raced #003, he was affiliated with Wild West Racers and #003 had a pair of red/orange hash marks while it was in his care.
I have never seen any historic photos of any of the Grand Sports in which they wore fender hash marks.
I have seen and heard the Wild West Racers chuckling and giggling at the sight of a '96 "Grand Sport" with its red hash marks.
In my opinion, someone in GM Styling (and maybe Marketing) failed to do their homework before they decided to apply those stripes.

I always thought that it was a little strange that Chevrolet chose to mimic the paint treatment of a Cobra(!) for the 96 Grand Sports.
As others have said, things like the hash marks were originally used by pit crews and timers to help identify team cars that were all painted the same primary color. Penske, who has often raced identical paint jobs, on team cars, still does this today. Back in 69, his Sunoco Camaros used red headlight covers and front spoiler on Mark Donohue's #6 and yellow covers and spoiler on the Bucknum/Leslie #9 car. Penske's current black and white IRL Dalarras each have different colored mirrors; black, red, or white depending on the driver.
