Good catch on things I missed magic, thanks.

I see you have Long Hauler x 6 under your avatar.
Presuming that means you've attended Hot Rod Power Tour and done the complete route for six years ?

I think the RH muffler was pushed/hit from the rear (not a backfire as stated in the video), and that's probably when the exhaust tips were replaced.

The seat belts were passed off as just needing a little paint, but wait till you hear the restoration price.

No mention was made of the condition of the top weatherstrips or the top padding inside the car - should be checked - along with the door weatherstrips due to expense.

yeah - and I'm signed up for 2010 Power Tour and have all my reservations made

PS I did not see the misalignment (noted above by kermudgeon) of the RH side of the valence panel, but if there is a problem there, it would go along with the muffler and exhaust tips.

Default Surprizes

Well i looked at the pictures and video of your car. The guy in the video appears to have some knowledge of cars which is a plus. The car is 45 years old and still has original carpet and interior that is pretty amazing. If your getting the original motor that is also a big plus. I think the car looks pretty good I don't know what you paid for it but it sounds like you are very satisfied. A good percentage of these cars have been involved in some type of accident even if it was minor. As you start taking things apart and working on it you will discover things for yourself. My one observation is that someone spent a fair amount of time detailing the motor compartment and frame so it looks pretty clean. Good luck with your car. Greg

Congratulations! Welcome to the club!

First off, prioritize. Safety? Reliability? Appearance? Originality?

Trust me, it will always be something, or many things...and if it says "Corvette Sting Ray" on it, that is code for $$$.

For knowledge, this Corvette Forum Site and the archives is the place to start...and free! Or consider your local Corvette Club(s), when you have a question, chances are you aren't the only one who's had it, and it has been thoroughly cussed & discussed!

Believe me, there is absolutely no end to the amount of time & money that can be devoted to your car. Gear Head or not, there is no greater rush (well, OK one) than driving that car on the Boulevard on a warm summer night-top down! Then it's all worth it!

Did I hear right, that there is no vin plate on the car!, VERY SCARY, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone to buy it in the future. You better do some Dick Tracy work while the money back part is still in effect. What no.'s are on the title? You probably should find the proper vin no. that's on the frame or see if its been filed off. Why would anyone remove the tags if not for illegal reasons? Or its been built with a bunch of cars. If this is the case, it's a 20grand tops car. Get the numbers, and check with the c2 registry and authorities to see if those numbers are in use already. Good luck!
Sorry to be such a downer, but I hate shysters and liars.

Nope.
There is no trim tag (that documents the color, interior, options, etc.).
The VIN plate is still there and all is good with the title, etc.

I'm not sure why it is missing, but as previously stated, I wanted a driver that I can paint and modify without ruining a code correct car, so this is perfect for my needs (and it kept the price in the range I was wanting to pay).

Thanks for your concern though.

whitemonster, sorry man i misunderstood, but since one plate is gone you might want to double check the vin on the frame anyway. Can you post a pic of the vin plate and blank spot for the experts to analyze?

No worries !!
I was very appreciative of your assistance and view on the car.
I am actually looking for as much advice as I can get, in addition to comments, recommendations and feedback, good & bad.

Here is a pic of the VIN plate from the dealer website.

When it comes to wiring harnesses and ignition shielding that is no problem to buy.
I suppose you know that you get almost eveything of parts that you need for your Corvette.

Wich year of StingRays had those rivets on the tags?

Your car really looks good

White monster, I recommend you start a new thread titles "Thoughts on this vin plate and rivets", and post the picture, and that will attract the pro NCRS types, but.....the rosette rivets appear to have been messed with, possibly replaced, marks around them and small fold at top right corner. Better to find out all the info you can, whatever your name is.

The VIN plate rivets started in '65 - they were ordinary round-head rivets until about #8000, when the "rosette" rivets began to appear; the two types were mixed until around #10,000, when the rosette rivets became the norm.

The VIN plate in the photo was most likely "born" with regular round-head rivets.

I can't be sure, because the video moved fast thru it, but I think the french locks were missing on the rear axles.
