Default Slot Wheels on C1 or C2's

I was searching on YouTube the other day and was exchanging e-mails with a buddy on what we found out there. There are lots of old corvette drag pictures on a couple of posts.

My question for you is; Does anyone else like the old school look of a C1 or C2 drag car / gasser with slot mag wheels as much as I do? I think it drools of old school cool.

I do! A few years ago a guy showed up at Carlisle with a '62 that was perfectly done in street gasser style. It had the straight axel, injected small block, Astro wheels in the front and white wall M&H slicks on the back wrapped around slotted Ansens I think or wide Astros. Lots of chrome and it had the right stance and sound. It attracted people like bee's too honey. The wheels are only part of the full appearence of these cars. Dennis

Default Ansens

i have a set of the Ansen Sprint wheels on my 68. I bought them in 1972 for either $25 or $50 each new at S&K Speed in Brooklyn, NY. I always liked them. Those are the wheels that Joel Rosen put on the Motion Vettes. I think they are again in production. Jerry

Oh yeah! thats what I'm taking about.... I like the look!
I have a 69 Nova I plan on putting a set on this year after they get polished back to life. 15x4.5 on the front and 15x8 on the back.

Default Slots

Did you ever change the slots to rally's?

I think those slots look great on your vette. Since I've seen quite a few others popping up?

What are others thought's on the old school wheel look? Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions for an alternative to a better looking center cap? I like the look of the flat cap on the torque thrust wheels. My Appliance slots don’t have the 5 screw hole nor do I want to make those 5 holes to use a flat cap. I'm already chatting with a friend who can machine me some billet centers that would be flat for the rear wheels and a spindle type look for the fronts.

Any other suggestions or ideas?

Very interesting... old and different wheels are very popular lately. Great example!

Default Ansen wheels

My Ansen wheels have the old push on center caps. They are long out of production. I had them powdercoated a polished aluminum color to match the wheels after I had them polished. I was so afraid of having a center cap flying off that my late dad made a minature drill bit and tap and used a 4/40 pan head screw to secure the cap from the inside. It worked out really well as I have yet to lose a cap. The screws are undetectible from the front. Jerry

Not yet. I've been spending my time on the cooling system and carbs. I did polish them up a bit though.

I took my set that I'm going to place on my 69 Nova to a local metal polisher. they came back looking like mirrors. I'll post a pic of them when I get the center cap situation finished.

No, sold it many moons ago, and kicking myself ever since. There's some shots of it on my page I think you can access, most of the guys here have seen them. Those were ET mags, 8+1/2in. rear, and 7+1/2in. fronts. Pm me if you want more. K

Great to see some rare Hands wheels again. They were a very popular upgrade on Corvairs, AIR John Fitch used them on his Sprints.

As for C1/C2 Corvettes and classic muscle cars,

the '60s wheel was Torq Thrust (runner-up Cragar SS),

the '70s wheel was slotted (many manufacturers),

The '80s wheel was Centerline (plain disc, no spokes or holes).

Can't choose a generic '90s wheel trend, but so far the 21st century seems to be about a rainbow of designs, all in TALL (like 20") sizes.

I am all about old school race cars. Both road racing and drag racing. I"v done my share of road race type cars. Two Grand sports and a replica of the Owens Corning 69. Right now I'm building a 62 gasser. I have already done allot of chassis mods and will be dropping the body on today to set my center lines for the straight axel in ft and where I want the rear end to be. I plan on running Ansen slots on the rear but not sure on the ft yet.

Not a vette but heres my 55 I built about ten years ago and still own. The 65 Biscayne is mine also
