If you get serious, I can probably look at it for you and give you some feedback.

It's likely no more than 20 miles from me.

I think I would have someone check this one out real good. It is an AO Smith body with side pipes. What else could be incorrect is anyone's guess. Matching numbers always intrigues me. They never mention if it is a re-stamp or an original engine. I would almost bet that it is a re-stamp simply because they don't show the pad stamping.

From the photos, looks nicely done except for the sidepipes, copper/brass replacement radiator, parts-store fan clutch, and M22 transmission.

John,
Did they make 396 cars with A.O. Smith bodies ?

Missing distributor ignition shield, missing choke tubes which leads to questioning whether the carburetor is correct since if it were, the choke wouldn't work correctly. This would also make me look close at the exhaust manifolds since the right side is supposed to have the clean air tube for the choke which may be why the tubes are missing, nothing to connect to if the manifolds are from a later year. It does have the correct PCV pipe though.

Jim - Yes, they did; the big-block restriction for A.O. Smith bodies was only for 1967.

Talked to the shop:

Nose has been replaced with an original GM Nose. Re-stamp date correct block. 66 exhaust manifolds. Service replacement carb. Restamp M-21, not M-22. After that I stopped asking questions...
