Early 1965 L79 5500 redline tach?
Hi-I understand early 1965 L79s had used a 5500 redline tach. What's the latest the 5500 redline tach was used? I'm looking at a Novmember '64 production car with a matching #s L79 that has an original 5500 redline tach. Would this have been possible? Many thanks in advance.

Can't they just be corvettes without the L76, L82, L88 ? This is a hobby. Most of us are just looking for parts to keep them running You need to be in NCRS where bolt heads are authenticed.

If you believe the car to be original and the tach too then I'm sure it could be possible. Someone with more knowledge in early 65's would have to validate that it could have happened.

Believe it or not, it is a hobby to the folks who belong to NCRS, too. I belong to both sites and my employment does not revolve around the Corvette service industry.
But you are correct in that the answer to this question is most likely found in the 1965 NCRS judging manual.
And in keeping with the holiday spirit: if you don't like the topic, then ignore it instead of trying to stir crap up.

What would have been a more appropriate way for this guy to ask his question, as to not ruffle your feathers?

I really like the Search Function on this forum.
I was thinking of asking the exact same question as this 10-year-old thread.
In the prior posts, it appears the end of the "early L79 cars" in 1965 (with the lower tach redline of 5300 RPM) was made somewhere between November 1964 and Dec 28, 1964.
I found another L79 car in that date range that appears to have the lower RPM tach on an auction website.
https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...VERTIBLE-96236
The car is VIN 194675S102997 with a birth date of November 24, 1964.
I believe this picture of its interior shows the lower RPM tach.
Anyone know of a later 1965 L79 car with the 5300 RPM tach?
The last of the "early L79s" was probably made between Nov 24 1964 and Dec 28 1964..

Ron,
My brother has a 65 L-79 and it had the low rpm redline. We changed it years ago to the higher only to find out we made a mistake. This was years ago but his car was a serial #3000 car built in November 64. he still has the lower rpm face and it may go back in someday.
