Moving to colorado have a 1967 Corvette with california 67 plates. Can anyone tell me what plates I am allowed in Colorado for this car? Can I get a pair of Colorado 67 plates and put on car? What are my choices and cost Thanks

Hey Zipp It, Welcome to Colorado. What part of the state are you moving into? Just a year or two back the Governor signed into law allowing this. There is a process and a form to fill out. If I remember correctly you need to photo copy your current plate, photo copy the replacement plate and fax this to the states motor vehicle. As well as proof of insurance. After approval you can run your year correct plates. I beleive you have to carry in the car the original plate. Not sure if this process works like this when coming in from out of state. I have the information for the process at home. I will get you the form number you need, and the fax number. If you call motor vehicle they may not even be aware of this program it's pretty new. Will also need an emission test(front range counties)

If those 67 CA plates are the originals, "black/yellow", keep them plates if you can. this is in case you move back to the great state of CA...Put the Colorado plates on....

I'm bored at work, so I was on the Colorado Dept. of Revenue website. Clicked on the "Forms & Publications. I beleive you will need the states form DR-2818. I also read the car must be currently registered as a "collector", "horseless carraige", or "Hot Rod" type plate. I beleive these are all five year registrations. Then you can apply for from DR-2818 "Authorization for use of year manufacture license plates" Hope this helps. If the info I have at home is any different then this I will repost.

Welcome to Colorado! The horseless carriage plate won't apply to a 67, need to use the collector plate and apply for the 'year of manufacture" plate use. Also don't delay registering your car after getting a driver license, they start a late fee of $25 per month with a $100.00 max penalty. If you need any help my wife works for the DMV and can give you some advice. I have found pairs of Colorado plates on ebay from a lady from Boulder.

Thanks guy that helps me a lot. I am getting ready to buy a house in Montrose. I will definitely keep my Ca plates. Ca just changed its law in July allowing 67 -62 to run YOM plates. Took almost 4 months for them to get it straight. I had to buy the plates( NOT cheap). Sounds similar to Ca. So when I find a set of colorado plates 67. I assume the plates must be cleared and how do you check that they are?

Montrose will probably not have emissions standards! Once you get your 67 plates and apply with a photo copy of the plate number, the state will check to verify. Pretty hard to have someone else using that plate with you having both! YOM plates must be in good original condition and not refinished to be accepted. I currently run 3 cars including my 62 Corvette on them. Good luck!

I am sure they are cheaper than Ca. They can run $300 easily for a good set.

Zipp It, I purchased a pair of uncirculated 1962 Colorado plates for $22 six months ago on ebay, I guess they are cheaper than CA.

Fred mentioned Montrose. What's a big city boy from Upland going to do in a small town. Grand Junction is a few miles away, but when your from this part of the world you get used to everything close and available. I tried it a couple of times but kept coming back to the So. Cal. area if for nothing else then the weather. Could not deal with the stay home inside weather.

A lot of people seem to be moving out of So. Cal. because they find life there too taxing.

I can get you a guys name that deals in old plates. He set me up with a pair of unused, they were never issued by the DMV. They were for my 66 mustang. We did some bartering a few years back. But I think he said they were worth about $75.00 If you want his info send me a PM.

Here in Norway the plates follows the car and not the owner
Same if the car is an old classic or brand new.

The only execption is if you import a car and it is older than 1971 you more or less can decide the numbers and letters yourself(either 1 or 2 letters)
I did that on my 64 because i imported the car myself so it was new here in Norway.I could also decide the width and height on the license plate.
