More Pertronix Questions
I realize there has been a lot on the forum about Pertronix, but for some reason we all probably feel like our situation is unique. I have a '67small block.
I want to eliminate the ballast resistor because I have a hi-torque starter which has different wiring than the original starter. And I want a Pertronix 2 because of "leaving the ignition on" protection. Maybe my wants are not possible.
I purchased my Pertronix from Ecklers. They told me I could have my above wants with this unit. It is a part number 1181. Is this a number 2 with "ignition on protection"?. And the instructions say if your system has a ballast resistor, do not remove it.
Any help from you Pertronix forum people would be appreciated.

3/4 years ago, I wired a ignitor2 and flame thrower coil as the bottom diagram shows, and the coil burned out in a few months. I went back to a ballast resistor and a cheap coil from oreilly.

Well there's no point in me offering bad advice. I've removed my post.

I am currently running (and have been for 8 months) a Pertronix billet distributor that has the Pertronix Ignitor II in it and a Flamethrower "low-ohm" 45,000V coil and have the ballast resistor bypassed. No issues and the Pertronix has a full 12V to it at all times...
However a web search indicates your Ignitor #1181 is probably the first version withOUT the ignition on protection so you will have to decide whether to use it or upgrade to a II or III Ignitor. The III Ignitor has a rev limiter option but requires a full 12V so the ballast resistor MUST be bypassed to use it.

I just noticed where you live Cricket....you should run down to Eckler's in Titusville with that 1181 unit and make them fork over a proper Ignitor II.
