Anyone Ever Wash Their C1?
Meaning with a bucket of suds and a good blast from the garden hose. My 58 has never had a bath since she was refurbished seven plus years ago. I think it's time, but I just can't talk myself into doing it. I estimate an hour just drying off the teeth in the grill. :D What's worse is the car is black and after washing it, I'll have to redo the whole body with a detail spray just to remove all the white haze from the water.
Just curious if anyone really washes their C1 and how long does it take to dry out the interior so it's ready to put back on the trailer.

I wash mine ocassionally and use compressed air to blow away the gross water and old, soft towels to thoroughly dry everything.

Trailer ! Trailer ! I don't need no stinking trailer! I drive my 60 4 or 5 times a week and I drive my 61 just about the same. Yes, I often I drive both in the same day. I wash each of them often, once every week or two at least. It takes about 1/2 an hour for each car. I have it down to a science. When you do it enough you get to know how to fold up the towel to dry and shine the teeth, just right and where the water drips in where and where it does not. Trailer? ;)

My '67 gets washed a couple time a year, especially if caught in rain on a road trip. Annual milage is 3500-5000miles. Now I can blow dry it, new compressor in garage. Most of the time I just wipe it down with a damp cotton recycled bath towels cut to size. I try to avoid heavy water around the vents, we all know the reason. My car is painted with urethane, this helps.

I have a 66 and no - I never use a hose and suds - I blow it off with compressed air - then I use a water mist spay bottle to dampen and soak the low fender areas behind the tires were road grim accumulates - then dry those area wih a clean towel being careful to roll the towel so an "always clean" towel area lifts away any grit from the paint and not returned back in another wipe - then use a California Dust mop on the entire car - then spray with Mequires Quick Detailer Mist and Wipe or Mequires Final Inspection - both products have special lubricants for the paint surface. Also - the surface is always highly waxed so dirt is repelled quite well. Although my 66 is driven often - it is not in the rain - period - if rain threatens - I am not out there !

I drive my '57 about 1,000 miles a year, wash it maybe twice a year (unless I get caught in the rain) - inbetween washes, the California Duster and Griot's "Fast-Shine" spiff it up for showing; wax it once a year with Meguiar's "Gold Class" - EZ on and off, great shine, lasts all year.
Takes me about 45 minutes to wash, including doing the "Bleche-White" thing to the wide whites; after rinsing, I walk around it with a leaf blower (old Viper trick) to blow out the hidden drips, finish it off with a terry towel. Life is good :D

I have to go along with Andy63. Drove mine just about every day last summer. A perfect summer. Six more weeks and I can start again. :D

Re: Anyone Ever Wash Their C1? (GT's58)
That's funny... I just washed my '58 yesterday (second time since September). I just use a bucket of warm water (no suds) and a soft dish rag to take off the dirt and a towel in the other hand to dry it off as I go.
I also took off the hubcaps and cleaned them with the warm water and cleaned the rims and tires with suds. Then I used the whitewall cleaner that I got from Coker when I picked up my new tires (worked pretty good). Never even brought out the hose. I did have to change water in the bucket several times though.

Probably going to catch it on this one... I wash mine about once a month during the summer. I use a dawn in the spring for the first washing/waxing then a good car soap the rest of the time. But I purchased a electric leaf blower that is used only for the blow drying the car. Have done that for several years now without a problem and save lots of time drying. All is left is touch up!

Ok, you guys talked me into it. The car is a nice driver, not a show car.
I'll have to get the stop watch out to see if I can break the half hour
national record. I don't think I can even come close, so you record holders need not worry. Two reasons why I estimate a good three hours.
1. The car is black, will have to detail spray everything after drying.
2. I have a degree in State of the Art Analtivity. :cry
 to all you C1 owners. :)

Re: Anyone Ever Wash Their C1? (GT's58)
I used to wash my 60 quite often for the first 10 years I owned it but since the body-off restoration it hasn't been washed in 16 yrs. I just don't drive it in the rain so it never gets dirty, just dusty. :yesnod:

Wow - 7 years without a bath!! Now that has to be a record. Mine's been gettin the dish soap bubble bath and hose treatment for 30 some years and ya know I think she likes it. Sure ain't hurt her nones I can tell. :yesnod: More than an hour in the water though and her tires begin to wrinkle. Sometimes I give her the 100 mph air dryer treatment and she really likes that. OOOOh does she like it! :D

Re: Anyone Ever Wash Their C1? (GT's58)
Indeed I do. Wash it all the time with Meguires soap and as soon as I throw the hose down, hop in it and driving about 75 till its dry! Then come home and clean the glass, and its good to go! What's all this talk about leaf blowers, have you guys forgotten how you did it in high school? :D
