Coker tires for a 64 Vette
I wanted to put those Corvette Knockoff wheels that really bolt on and have spinners and look like the original Kelsey Hayes K.O.'s that were available on the 1964.
Well, I went to Coker Tire and ordered 4 of the Americal Classic 1" wide Radials size P205/75R15 which is the recommended size. I took the tires and the above K.O. wheels to a professional installer . The Installer said that he balanced them, but they needed an excessive amount of balance weights ( 16 Ounces on some of the wheels and somewhat less , 12 Oz or so, on the others) . The installer said 2, 3, 4 Oz is normal.
So, I returned these 4 tires for another set to try them! If these are the same , then what? In defense , Coker is working with me.
I noticed that in the Coker literature , they say only bubble balance ?!
Is bubble balance alone ok?
Has anyone else had any issues like this ? I want the best tires , what should I do?
Thanks, George

Send the Coker Classics back for a refund (they know they have problems with balancing their radial red/gold lines for over 10 years) and contact Diamondback classics and buy tires that look great and balance perfectly! Been there done that!

It's been a long time but when I was in the tire balance business, I think I remember that balance weights were not to exceed 5-6(?) ounces on any tire.
If it took more than that to balance the tire was to be rejected.

I've bought 2 sets of tires, gold lines and red lines, from Diamondback. Great tires with no balance problems. Get your money back and go with DB.

I have never liked the Cokers for the above reasons. I can't believe they still make them.

I've had trouble with Coker on a set of simple OEM rims. It took six tries to get a set of four that weren't bent or didn't take four ounces of weight. They still haven't picked up the last bad one they sent and I have yet to see a refund. Never again.

I do not own either one, but I have read on this forum for some time that diamondback are the only way to go. I would say stick to the majority rule here....

I have a set of Coker Gold Lines, bias ply. Not radials.l No problem with balance and no excess weight.

Thanks For The Input About Coker Guys!
I was considering buying a set of chrome rally wheels from them and maybe some redline tires too. I won't make that mistake.

Both companies are fine by me.
Could it be the wheels themselves? Are the wheels "Made in China" KO's?

I recently bought a set of 205-75-15 BFGs from Coker and I am very pleased. They were round and did not require much weight. They are smooth running and drive great. I bought the W/Ws but turned them around because I wanted Black Walls. With K.O. Wheels and a White Car, I personally think W/Ws are a bit much. I believe they are also available in white and red strip.
Just my experience,

My '67 had a brand-new set of 205/75-15 "Coker Classic" redline radials on it when I bought it; they weren't round (radial runout was off the charts), and they needed WAY too much weight to balance them.
I had Diamond Back make me up a set of Firestone Supreme Si redline radials, and they balanced nicely and passed the loaded runout checks on a Hunter GSP-9700 with no problem. I left the Cokers at the tire shop where I had the new ones mounted.
