No, they never put a 396 in a Corvette
Hahahaha, just wondering how many 396 owners have gotten this response at a car shows or car cruises? Or just stopping at a place and someone comes up to you and says, they never put a 396 in a Corvette! I've owned mine for 34 years and I've lost count after a dozen times I got this over the years.
Us 65 and 66 big blocks are over shadowed too with the 67 biggies and that ain't right either, hahahaha.

It's amazing the statements you run across. One guy told me my headlight bezels should be chrome (on my 1961) and he was adamant about it. Then there are "when they had steel bodies" or three tail lights.

i like the guy who told me at a show that he restored many corvettes and my 66 was prone to floor pan rust.......

my favorite all time car show conversation was with a really really old guy who had a car just like mine, but it was a 4 door with a Hemi.....
I only hope that when I am that old, someone has the patience to listen to my stories without bothering to correct any factual errors..........

When the guy told me the bezels should be chrome I politely told him that was on the earlier cars but some people liked the chrome so they used it on the later ones and his response---He had one and NO they didn't.

I was at a show with my '58 and a woman asked me why the red was different from the '62 next to me and if one was wrong. I said my car was Signet Red, a completely different tone than the Roman Red car.
She said, "you mean "Roaming Red." I explained, no, its "Roman" like, those from Rome. She took great offense and stomped off. Huh?
Same show: guy asked what kind of gas mileage I got. I said I never thought about it, and didn't care. he didn't like me either. Glad it wasn't people's Choice.

I had, kind-of, the opposite thing happen to me back in 1983, when I driving my '64 Convertible. Someone at a party I went to (not a car show) asked if my car was the "new" Corvette.

At car shows I have been asked more than a couple times if my car
is supercharged, and I have listened to guys explaining their son or friend about my car having a supercharger. It is NOT........
It has an original Rochester fuel injection

Had a guy pull up at the gas station when I was filling up the 64 in his Chrysler sebring convertible and asked me if it had the "big block" told him no a small block. Said he bought a new corvette in 63' with "the big block". Told him "sounds like a cool car"! The funny thing is that he could not have been over 40 years old.

Back in 1985 when I owned my '67 coupe (I was 23 years old at the time) I had many people ask me if I bought it brand new. I would have been 5 years old at the time. Of course I answered "Yes".

Hahah.......just the other day a guy was looking at my 63 and said "looks like someone has put a fiberglass hood on this thing". I said "yeah, they also put fiberglass doors, fenders, deck lid, etc.. I don't think he got it..........

When they have that know it all attitude, it usally means they love your car and wish they could own it or one like it, but probably never will be able to. Try to see what they leave the show with. Bet its a totally unfinished something or a Toyota Camry. "For Jealousy is the rage of a man;" Proverbs 6:34

Local show and shine, I took my FI '60 and, of course had the hood up.
Couple of High School Harrys walked by. One asked the other, what's that thing? The other looked at the FI and, with an all-knowing aire, replied, it's a supercharger.
Those two boys sure get around.

When I had the 400hp decal on the Tri-Power air cleaner -
"Meh, it's only a 400hp car."
$3.00 later with the 435hp decal -
"Wow! Is it a real 435hp car?"

It's not just car shows... One of the building maintenance guys at work saw a picture of my car on my desk the other day. "Hey, is that your Vette? Man, that things worth a $100,000! You know that, right? A friend of mine restores them. Is that one of the metal ones?" I was so flabbergasted I just said, I'll take a check or cash.
