Default 1966 Vette Exhaust Manifolds

My car still has the original 327/350 engine in it which runs great but I am contemplating removing it for safe keeping and installing a 383 in its place. The plan would be to dress the engine in as many of the original parts as possible to maintain a "stock" outward appearance. I know about the breather issue and have veiwed the various threads showing the options available. I figure that I should probably replace the stock 2" 1966 exhaust manifolds with a pair of 1965 2 1/2" manifolds. The question is my 1966 has the alternator on the driverside and the 1965 has it on the passenger side, so...... Can the 1965 2 1/2 manifolds be used and still maintain the stock (driver side) alternator location ?

Yes - just use the '65 2-1/2" driver's side exhaust manifold that was used with A/C; casting #3846563; it uses your existing lower alternator bracket and upper alternator brace. Use casting #3797902 on the passenger side.

John,
Thanks for the info. I found a 3797902 and a 3797901. Will that pair work or only the 3797902 ?

The 7902 is for the RH side, and the 7901 won't work for the driver's side - it doesn't have the two forward-facing tapped holes for the lower alternator bracket; you need a 6563 for the driver's side.

Thanks again John, I'll be looking for the 6563 and the 7902.

John,

Found and purchased the 3846563 for the driver side. I also located a 3797942 ...would that work for the passenger side ? It is listed as a 1965 327/365hp right side manifold.

Yup, the 942 will work fine.
