Tach recorder
A friend has a nice '60. I was helping him with a project and noticed his tach had a recorder on the bottom of the gauge. Obviously not original, what year or model could it have come from? It's not hooked up as he has a later model generator. Numbers on the gauge face look like the correct font. Thanks, Bob

Bob, describe what you mean by a recorder, never heard of this before. Does it show the highest RPM, and then you can reset it? Thanks, Bill.

What you have is a revolutions counter. These were used in all 53-57, except for a few 57 RPO column mounted tachs. They were also used on the 58 except for the 8000 RPM tach. Kind of like an hour meter, if you have seen one on equipment like tractors etc. Kind of useless if you ask me, I guess that is why they discontinued that feature after 1958.
If the tach has a redline on the face it is a 58.

Thanks for the scoop. As I had a new '60 I knew it wasn't right for his car but I thought they only came on the six cyl models. First Vet I ever drove was a '58 but tooo long ago to remember dash details ! Bob
