Looking good

My 5 speed Long shifter is still wrapped in the original boot. Square peg in a round hole. Now I know what to replace it with.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks
I reinstalled the stock boot under the leather one to help keep the heat out. I cut it to fit around the shifter mechanism for a better fit. 10 lbs of sh*t in a 5 lb bag.

Man you got that right!
Actually I read about someone, on some forum, sometime a while back, that did it. No pics though. As a non-invasive mod I think it looks pretty good. As 327Heaven says it's great for a Hurst on Long shifter.

Tom, I wasn't aware that you could buy one, so I had a local upholstery shop make one for me. I've got a little more material on the sides so that I could anchor it with the rubber boot.

I'm trying to find a leather shift boot for my 67 and saw your post. I called Corvette America but they told me there was no way there 68 leather boot would work. How did you make yours work? It looks great.

they are easy enough to make yourself... i made 3 of them out of leather for a car i owned a while back,,, used one and sold one
Go to a leather shop and purchase the leather,, i used a local shop that did work for saddles
The leather was soft and supple ,, i was lucky because i had an old vinyl boot to use as pattern to cut new leather... i cut it out and my wife sewed it up for me

You're lucky to have a wife that sews. I'm not that fortunate.

You Canadians are great guys. Time to pull your Vette out of the garage and clean it up a bit. I found a local shop that's going to make one for me. I appreciate all your help very much.

CA is correct. The boot is not designed for a mid-year but it will work. Remove the metal console plate on your car. The C3 boot has a thin metal band glued to the bott of the boot. Shape the band to match the shifter opening on the console. Put the boot over the shifter. Reinstall the console carefully trapping the boot, and metal band, under the console. That's about it. It's not a custom boot but it's not bad.

This is from Zip's website. Just wondering if this is the same as it says it fits 1970 to 1976, but not 1968, 1969.

I used the same boot on my 63 but I removed the metal ring and glued it to the bottom of the shift boot retainer so it wont pull out. also used the stock rubber boot underneath.
