What year are you talking about? The word "trim" in your post suggests a 63-67?

For the most part, all you can do is use detective work to see what things are in place, what evidence there is that other things were in place. Use the tachometer or other gauges to help determine what horsepower those gauges were for, and then if you are lucky and those gauges have a ink-stamped date code that closely aligns with the production date of your car, you have a high probability that those gauges are original to your car and actually tell you something about - your car.

My 66 coupe shows all the signs that it was a big block high horsepower car. The gauges seem to be original as I had the dash out not long ago and it all seems to match. My battery is located on the Passenger side though?

I thought big block batteries were on the driver's side? Am I getting confused? (Update: Yes I sure was confused)

You are thinking of the 65 L78. For 66 only C60 equipped cars were left side.

I'm pretty sure that batteries were on the driver's side for all big blocks and all small blocks with AC.

A 66 BB with air will have a low red line tach and a 2 bolt 427 hydraulic cam engine with a Rochester 4 bore carb. Probably also have a cast iron intake...

Yep, I was one of those for sure. By the way, did you figure out what was wrong with your power window post? Hint - double negatives
