Default What is this carb?

Ok, first things first. Tomorrow I will take her to check the brakes and suspension and safety stuff as 62Jeff suggested.
But I want to know what is this carb. I know these cars came with Carter or Holley, depending on horsepower. This NOM has a Edelbrock intake manifold on it with the word "TORKER" imbedded in it for posterity up in front by where the water hose gets attached to the engine. From this clue, would anyone venture a guess as to what's in this thing?

Looks like a Holley.

What are the numbers on it?

Looks like a big Holley.

The Torker intake manifold is, I believe, a single plane manifold. A single plane manifold means you have a big square hole in under the carburetor and that design favors high RPM power, typically shifting the torque curve up in the RPM range.

Do you have any specifications on the engine that's in that thing? The carburetor and intake could be overkill for the engine, or they could be just right depending on what the engine was designed to do.

I have no idea what the engine is. The dealer didn't either. I'll be taking it to my mechanic later this week so he can figure it all out, but it would be nice if i knew what the hell he was talking about.
I'll run out and get some carb numbers. Where do you find them?

On the air horn, front side (choke housing) Look for a "list" number.
It's a Holley double pumper, mechanical secondary carb.. probably a 650 or 750 cfm.. The list # will tell you for sure.

Ok, could not find any numbers out in front (don't really know where the air horn is anyway).. The numbers that I did see are as follows:
6R 8026
17 (like an ink stamp)
7A
front 11180/back 11138
That's all I could see. Sure smells like alot of gas in there.

The horn on your holley is the part that has the choke blade in it at the top. Look on the front, there will be a couple of numbers stamped on it, one should say List 477x, this will tell you which carb you have. The torker intake is an old single plane intake with small runners, not the greatest for performance, the RPM & Victor Jr are much better.

4779-9, and under that it's 1324. You guys are the greatest. I'm really enjoying learning this stuff.
This still won't tell me what size engine I have, right? Or the HP. How acn one tell that?

that is a 750, 780 or 800 CFM holley (judging by the venturies) center pivot double pumper. manual choke without a choke cable hooked up (not a problem up here, i usually just cut the choke housing off and eliminate all the pass side linkage).
the dist vacuum advance is hooked up to the right port but do something about the throttle return spring, it has been bubba'd, bubba often hooks it to the hose clamp like that. the spring should extend straight foreward to a bracket on one of the front intake bolts.

glad to see you got your car, looks pretty nice. i've been following the threads about your new purchase but have not responded until now. get the list number off the carb and someone will tell you exactly what it is. the list # is on the front of the choke horn on the drivers side- it will be stamped in and wiil read "LIST-xxxx" almost certianly aftermarket. the holley center pivot, double pumper is a great carb, but depending on your engine displacement (327?, 350??, 383???) it could be serious overkill in the airflow dept, a common problem with the "more is better" hot rod crowd. get the #s off the stamp pad on the pass side front of the block and we can probably give you an idea of displacement (all bets are off if it's a 383 CI engine). OH, and wecome to CF C!-C2...

on a second look at your pic it seems to have a pertronix unit in the distributor (a good thing IMO). OH, and loose that glass filter on the fuel line also!! i i hope your mechanic has a clue about C-2s, nobody up here i ever met does. was your pic taken on auto row??

EDIT--not the pic, your avatar...

Went out to look for a stamp pad on the passenger side...couldn't find anything. Where exactly is it located. I saw a couple of numbers on pass. side but very close to firewall behind and below the distributer. I read somewhere that stamps have many numbers, so i figured that wasn't it.
By the way, what books should I purchase. I may order the owners manual and the '63 shop manual with '65 supplement. What is an AIM? Any other books i should get? Thanks.
I'm not sleepy.

It also looks like your Holley has a leak(what a surprise). On the front of the engine on the passenger side, about 6 inch's down from the front of the valve cover there is the block stamp pad. If the block hasn't been decked, there should be some numbers and letters stamped there. Post them and we will tell you what you are dealing with. Welcome, and now the fun begins.

I'll go look. I got these numbers from the left rear of the engine, driver's side close to the firewall.

2 GM 387 (or Z) 0010

I'll go check out the front of the right valve cover 6 inches down on the pass. side. Uh, do I look from above or below? Oh well, I'll try anyway.

The AIM is the assembly manual for the car. A MUST for a new C2 owner. Most vendors sell it.

Most of the 0010 blocks were 350ci, could have been a large journal 327 in 1969 or even a 302. Most 0010's are 4-bolt mains. If you pull a valve cover & get the head casting # & date codes, you'll have a better idea of what you have. There is also a date code on the block by bell housing in the center by the distributor.
