That truck WOULD be a nice daily driver.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming diesel passenger cars for my particular uses.

We made Ranger diesels from, I think '83-'85. First year we used a 2.2L Mazda diesel and the following year switched to a Mitsubishi 2.3L Turbo diesel.

The plant made 1600 Rangers a day. Over the life of the diesel program, we probably averaged making 12-15 a day and toward the end, way less than that. The program was canceled for lack of interest. I never heard but I'd bet Ford lost money on every one they sold.

Not exactly a popular option. The Turbo diesel was pretty peppy. The Mazda was a dog.

Chrysler could have beaten everyone to the punch had they not
fumbled..

They introduced a 2.8 liter Diesel in the Liberty... problem being
it was only available in 4wd and only available in the very top level
of add/on trim... it was priced too high and squelched some of it's
MPG advantage with the 4wd only offering..

I test drove a Liberty CRD in 2006... nice little motor..

I wish they had made it available in ANY trim level and offered it
in the Dakota and Wrangler... I'd have bought one.

One of the things I liked about the 2.8 CRD was that it was built
for Chrysler by VM Motori.... a Penske Company...

Penske bought VM Motori while he still owned Detroit Diesel and
brought excellent management and product development to VM
much in the same way he did at Detroit Diesel.

I would welcome any Rear Wheel drive diesel offerings by any of
the Mfg's in the small 2.0 to 3.0 liter range... I've even watched
for a V6 Diesel rumored to be coming to the F150...

There were several small diesel offerings in the 80's...
Ford Ranger, Isuzu/Chevy Pup.... they didn't sell well ..
of course they were released about the same time that we got
the Ford 6.9.... had they been released a few years after
when diesel trucks had gained some acceptance I think the small
diesels would have sold better... perhaps we'd still have them.

Watching the ALMS and the Audi diesels tear up the track would tempt me...IF the U.S. had the same grade diesel as in Europe.
