MHRA Detroit Autorama Hot Rod Show
Loading cars into Cobo Hall right now. They started at 11:00 this morning and they will be finished Thursday night. Judging classes will be finished Friday night. They expect over 150 cars will be eligible for the 'Don Ridler' trophy by the fact the cars shown for the first time. qualify. But only about 30 will be actually selected. Some eligible through pictures submitted in there applications and a few could get in on there arrival. There were about 35 last year. The top 8 will be chosen Saturday and the winner Saturday night. Last years winner cost 2.1 million to build and just the display by itself was over 100 K. All for a Chevy engine and 10K $$$.

The 'Don Ridler' award is exclusive at the Detroit Autorama as he was one of the original Autorama organizers. I had two of the show judges and 2 past Ridler Award winners over yesterday. I myself was 1 vote away from the award when my fuel roadster got second on a technicality of not having my Lenco transmission blanket on the trans. It didn`t help that that one vote {single judge} and I didn`t get along very well. Lots of politics with this show as now some of the losers could be multi million dollar pieces with owners not too happy when they lose. Money is just thrown at some of them as its the most prestigious custom car award in the country.

It's been 20 years since I've been to Autorama. I think Linda Vaughn was there last time I went.

Hi, AA
I went down and got some passes set up to be at the exhibitors door under my name. Same old show Aaron. No wonder i`m tired of it. Stop by tomorrow and we might just go as it opens. Hate the crowds. Bring your camera. Around noon?

Thanks for posting Donny! That car is outstanding to the max! I like everything about it. Although the odds are against him, I hope Rich wins the 'Don Ridler' trophy. Magnificent piece of work!

I spoke with Rich , his wife and son about a hour or so ago just before they went to dinner. The top 8 was posted and he didn`t make it. Very nice Vette, but it`s the toughest show in the country. You must consider what the show is, a hot rod show and both competition and Vettes have a up hill battle to win it all. Traditionally Vettes dont do very well at this show. I can say this with out any parochiality, he had the best Vette there. He also did mentioned that he knew it was a up hill battle from the get go and was happy to hear that a lot of people was pulling for him..
