Default restoring 1960 corvette from top to bottom..suggestions wanted

1960 283 fuel injection restoration in progress. Car has been setting 30 years undriven. I want to go back original parts, etc., if possible.
I could use any help that is out there.

First suggestion - hide the receipts where the wife won't find them....

Greater attention to detail, more patience, lower frustration threshold, less likely to throw tools, beer expense probably lower....

Need I go on?

And you don't need to. You can do anything he could do as long as you use the right tools. My own bride did a body-off restoration on her '59 before we met and she did a magnificent job. You'll do fine.

Good luck.

Take lots of photographs and document everything. Pick an AIM manual and some of Nolan Adams books.

I would builld a worksheet. Plus keep track of everything you need to buy or plan on buying in a book of some sort. This way, you can budget the restoration cost.

Also, double the price you think it will cost to restore the car. Parts are not cheap.

Sorry...it's in too many pieces for pictures. As far as we can tell, everything is still here except a few parts, one being the washer pump which I am having a hard time finding.

Auto restoration project = four wheels surrounding a hole you throw money in.

Fill in your profile! (standard newby admonition)

Tinat,
I am also restoring a 1960 f.i. car from the ground up. Mine was last on the road in 1973. Where are you located at? I am about 2/3 done right now. I have alot of the componant stuff done, just waiting to get back into the body shop for final work and paint this spring. Is your1960 early, mid year or late in production. Mine is ....8061, which means it is fairly late (May 27, 1960). I would be glad to help you in any way I can.

Greg, It sounds like you can be alot of help since you've beenthrough this yourself. Ours is a 8553 production made in June.
We are in Kentucky, approx. 45 miles north of the corvette museum in Bowling Green.
Got any suppliers that you like more than others?

Keen Autos
Zips

I have used for parts:

Corvette Central
Paragon
Dewitt Radiators
Quanta
Vettegal (Mary Jo)
Joe Calcagno (R.A.I.N.)
Pacific Coast (for original pieces)

For restoration services:

John Pirkle - starter, generator, voltage regulator, horn relay
Sully's Tops - soft top frame rebuild
Jerry Bramlett - F.I. Restoration

I will be traveling to West Virginia for the Chevrolet Nomad Convention in July. I plan to stop at the Corvette Museum. Maybe we can meet.

My big brake fulie is 8536. Does anyone know if there were a "run" of fulies in this 8000 production range?

How is the body of the car?

We are doing a retoration of a 59 in our shop that was sitting for 35 years. A tremendous undertaking indeed. We are replacing, well, everything!!!!!
If you want some inspiration check out our website and go to restoration gallery, then click on the pic of the 59

Best Regards and good luck.It will be worth it in the end.

BTW this car is being restored back to pretty much stock except for the motor which is a 350.Original 283 long gone. Aftermarket wheels etc... are only there temporarily.

Tinat - You've gotten some great information already, a reason I like to visit often. IMHO, I would suggest attending corvette car shows. If your intent is to restore it completely original (NCRS), then I would attend some NCRS events. This will help you see in person the fit and finish of the many different parts. This will also help to see how everthing goes together, especially if your memory may be like mine or you weren't the one that disassembled the car.
If your intent is restore with personal touches, a non-NCRS car show will have plenty of individualized cars. You can pick up excellent ideas that you may want to incorporate into your rebuild. Generally, the owners are milling around at the shows and almost all are willing to talk to you and answer questions.
Remember to have fun and good luck with the rebuild!
