1964 Fuel Gauge Replace
I haven't been able to find anything on this in the threads yet.
Does anyone have instructions or website showing steps to replace fuel gauge without having to remove the whole dash?

Personally, I've removed the Amp gauge pod (which includes the Fuel Gauge) from my 65 by:
1) Unbolting the lower steering column mount at the dash
2) Removing the dash mounting screws and installing 4, long 1/4"x20 threaded rods
3) Disconnecting the oil line
4) Pushing the dash cluster towards the drivers seat to gain working room
5) Removing the screws that hold the Amp/Fuel gauge assembly to the cluster housing.

I've pulled the battery guage out of my 64 without removing the whole dash. A little tight to do, but it can be done.
Also. take out the driver's seat and lay a blanket down to give yourself additional room to crawl underneath, upside down below the steering wheel.

Not to hijack your thread, but Richbop, can you reach the temp gauge this way too? I need to hook-up a special wire for a calibrated temp sender and would prefer to hide under the dash.

If you really make an effort, yep you can reach it. But one of the most important issues is the removal of the oil pressure line and the loosening of the collar around the steering column. You can slide the dash out, crawl underneath, upside down and get to most of the guage pods on each side.

Yep, I found some threads back in pages 30s and 40s showing how to do the checks and I intend on doing them before removing gauge. But I went to a dealer last summer who diagnosed it was the gauge and said he'd change out the gauge for $400. Since gauge is $90 at zip, thought I do it myself.
