Default Are ads showing up in the threads now?

For the second time I opened a thread with the text crushed to the left and an ad for auto parts on the right side - and the worst part is the thread locks up the browser and I have to use end task and start over.

Is it me or are others seeing this?

The mini movie is hogging my cpu and making me shut down ie6. Unless they find some ads that use less cpu and bandwidth, I will not be able to use this forum.

Here's a fix if you're using Firefox as your browser:

If you use Firefox, you can get rid of the ads. Click on Tools...then Add-Ons...then Get Extensions. Next, install Adblock Plus. Then add http://www.hypemakers.net to the list of blockable items.
I'm still looking to see if I can find an easy fix for IE, I'll post it if I can find one.

There's a sticky thread in OT going on right now, too (where I got the firefox fix)...

Supposedly, this (free) add on works for IE7...I have no idea if it really does or not, I don't use IE.

Its all about the money.

Try an ad blocking program....I run Norton Internet Security and Spysweeper for the malware and I dont see any ads....only a blank space.

Ok - I got this off the sticky and it works

It's pretty easy to disable the ad in Internet Explorer, assuming you have a tiny bit of computer knowledge.

Go here "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" and edit the file called "hosts", you double click "hosts" and open it with Notepad.

At the bottom of the file add this text, "127.0.0.1 www.hypemakers.net" without the " " on each side. Then close it, when it asks to save it say "yes".

You're still left with this, but it's much better.

Just google mozila firefox and download it. It is free and works much better and faster than IE. No ads have shown up so far on my screen. But I'm sure the new owner will find a way to make us see them also.
"EDIT"Nope forget it I just read another post and sure enough an ad popped up on the first post. Hope someone figuires out how to block them.

Is this what's been slowing my computer down from loading in threads the last week or so? I'm on dial up.

You can also block sites in IE by the security settings.... just add offending site to the "Restricted Sites" list. IE will then ignor all links to said site.

IBTL - This sucks. O/T is full of locked threads about it. Here is a little helper to fix.

dont forget to clear your internet cache, and go to start > run: ipconfig /flushdns

You'll be all set.

hosts is located in
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

its simply "hosts"

open with notepad.

Any dangerous or annoying domain name can be "banned" by entering lines such as:

127.0.0.1 annoyingsitethatwillgetyoufired.com

That way whenever you accidentally go to that site, it will come up "Page cannot be displayed"

Also great for keeping your kids off of sites you don't want them to visit!

It has so many great uses.

Very irritating. Just wait until all the replies have adds too!

Gets very tiring when being constantly subjected and always in your face to "buy buy buy buy ..................."

Yup, this blows. Don't forget all ebay links will be locked , I see ebay links all over now. Might as well lock the whole forum.

Actually this has been productive, if a little time consuming. Not only have I got my speed back after implementing the above suggestions, but not even the weather channel displays ads anymore.

I'm lovin it
