Smaller steering wheel

The Corvette wheels are considered walnut not rosewood. The two spoke wheel is also not rosewood. Not sure if it is considered walnut or not but I have an original and it is not rosewood. Pretty sure the only rosewood wheel was in 69 as an option and it was 16". Not sure what you mean by "If you use a 16 its not the right wheel." Midyear Corvettes used 16" wheels, woodgrain plastic wheels for other gm models I believe are all 16" or larger. Only the comfort grip wheels were 15".

Just remove the turn indicator stalk, put a rag around it, and put it "long-ways" in a vice at the base and crank the vise a little to straighten it out a little and pull it back from the steering wheel. That's what I did with my Grant.

ASK John the diameter of his rosewood optional wheel pictured for his 69 camaro?? Perhaps you may understand then.
All midyear steering wheels are 16" in diameter; so is the simulated rosewood N34 wheel on the '69 Camaro.

Answer
Yet the 69-75 corvettes were black and 15??? Did they ever make one OEM rosewood 15 inch ?
I know all midyear corvettes colors rosewood teakwood were all 16.

Dear Blubu,
Standard '63 plastic steering wheel rims match the interior; black, red, saddle tan, etc. No woodgrain option.
'64-'67 standard wheel is woodgrain plastic, kinda light for walnut, kinda dark for rosewood. My '64 hasn't cracked in 43 years and 300,000 miles.
I think a slightly thicker-rimmed genuine teak wheel was an available option in '66 and '67.

My only contention was the Rosewood in question that was available in a 69 camaro was 15 inch shallow depth like the Later 69-75 black three bars on corvette.
I was AWARE that a 15 inch rosewood did not exist in a corvette.
While Im on the subject. They made a corvair wheel Rosewood two bar which is a dead ringer for my 66 chevelle Except the diameter on a corvair is 15 vs the chevelle which is 16. If anyone happens to see one . I would be a buyer.A real 69 camaro rosewood is being priced around 1.000.00 OEM If they were truly 16 inches in a camaro??
Why not go with a 64-67 corvette same wheel for less than a third of the money???Depth different?

The shallower depth is why I used the 69 Camaro wheel on my 65. It is the same diameter as the Corvette wheel but significantly shallower. I like the increased elbow room. I think the reason for the shallow depth is the igntion switch. In 69 it was still on the dash. In 70 it was moved to the steering column so the column was longer in that area. They made up the difference in the wheel offset. Not to keep stirring the pot but do you have a picture of your rosewood two spoke wheel? I have always thought the 69 Camaro was the only rosewood wheel gm made.

1969 however would be a shallower wheel had a different shaped dash though than a 67-68
Check John Z pic in this subject of the interior of his 69 note switch location

Sir
AS soon as roomate gets back home from SEMA
I WILL POST PICS oF A 16 INCH ROSEWOOD WHEEL for my corvette flat bottom and 4 inches deep in ctr.
As well as 66 two bar chevelle rosewood wheel 16 inches and also deep. I may not be a very bright fellow???
But the one thing I do know for a fact is the 69 camaro had ignition in the column the last ignition switch in dash was 1968
We tried a 16 inch rosewood wheel out of a mid year corvette It had tilt worked fine in a 68 camaro convertible
We tried a 70 model corvette 15 inch black three bar which is a inch less in diameter and about the same or more shallower it hit Dash when raised?? So you are right in one aspect
1969 however would be a shallower wheel had a different shaped dash though than a 67-68

This is just a discussion on steering wheels. Don't have a heart attack. If you read my post I used the words "I think" and "I thought". I am no expert. Just trying to give some input and maybe learn something as well.
I see what you mean in John's pic. I was wrong. Been wrong before and lived through it. Expect I will live through this too and I hope you do as well.

You guys sure savad me alot of headaches trying to figure out my steering wheel problems for my 64 roadster. It sure is great to have so much knowledge at your fingertips. Now I think I will only have to buy 1 instead of the trial and error method that I was going to use. The different pictures sure help. Keep up the good work guys.

I have just bought a leather wrapped deep dish C3 steering wheel which i will mill out the spokes to look more like a C2 steering wheel like the steering wheel to the right made by a forum member here
I have also bought another hub that i will mill down for the bottom spoke

Here is a picture of the smaller C3 leather wrapped steering wheel and a picture of the milled out 1963-65 hub so it fit the newer type of steering wheels on my coupe

I installed a Grant model 930 in my C2 earlier this year. Looks very similar to the original but smaller. 14.5", walnut finish, real wood, little thicker than the original. It bolts on with no mods. Doesn't block view of gauges, turn signal lever is flush with wheel. No issues with manual steering. Brought it from Jegs for $291. Here's a link to the Grant site.

I have had my car in the same garge since 1993 but after i changed to a smaller steering wheel last year the fu**** critters have been eating on the leather close to the bottom spoke on the new steering wheel
So now i have put back on my original steering wheel
I guess i was lucky because all that was damaged by the mice was the steering wheel and nothing else(like my new original leather seats)
