Default Founding Fathers.

The founding fathers of Rock & Roll.
Buddy Holly, Gerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry.

This should start an arguement.

Yes, Elvis could sing and look handsome but Roy Orbison was much better. It was the thick glasses that turned the girls off.

Buddy Holly did not come on to the scene until 1957. Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, ELvis, Bill Halley, Little Richard, etc were all before Buddy Holly and set the tone for others.

Another Trivia: Everly Bros sond "Claudette" was writing about what R&R stars wife?

Then you've probably never heard Marty Robbin's version of "Long Tall Sally" either!! Both were early on in Marty's career when he was trying to find his niche. Neither "Long Tall Sally" nor "That's All Right" were quite right for Marty, but he did hit it big with "White Sports Coat" and a few others before he finally settled into what I consider his best period, country music. At any rate, he was a great talent.

Buddy signed with Decca in January, I believe, of 1956. But you're correct in that he didn't have a national hit until 1957. Nevertheless, he is considered by many to be one of the founding fathers and most influential musicians, writers, and arrangers of early Rock 'n Roll!! My personal opinion is that he was one of the most talented performers to come along in that era.

Sure miss you Buddy!!!

Correct - give the man a free gallon of gas !

I agree that Buddy Holly was one of the all-timne great R&R artists, but still think the others set the pace. Best of all, I remember seeing him live in person when some friends & I went to one of the Alan Free R&R shows in NYC around 1958. On stage were Buddy Holly, Everly Brothers, Jackie Wilson, Gino & Gina, Chuck Berry and more, I'm sure they all paid peanuts compared to what performers command today

You guys are giving me bad vibes. Just came out from the garage and listened to the Everly Brothers "Dream, Dream, Dream" and "That's Old Fashioned". Now I feel old. Guess I am....

I found Deadman's Curve in North Carolina, just north of Rockingham. First time I ever saw a road named that ! Wanted to stop and take a pic, but I was on a narrow 2 lane road (imagine that) pulling my race bike trailer.
