Default Adding Aftermarket A/C to 66

I'm thinking of adding the corvette central aftermarket a/c kit to my vert. Has anyone had any experience with this kit i.e., ease of install, operation, fit? Like always, Thanks.

How was the instalation? My 65 Coupe does not have air, but now that I've moved farther south, I'm considering it. Not sure how much work it would be. Do you have to relocate the battery from the passenger side? Thanks for any info.

Default A/C Systems

I am installing a Vintage Air in my 66 coupe as part of a total restoration. After eveything I have done, some things twice, the install on the AC is not that hard. You can download the instructions from the Vintage Air web site and see for yourself. Also check the archives and read what others have said about the install. Good Luck. Jerry

I also have a 65 coupe 327/365 and not sure if I want to install Vintage air or Classic. Would love to see some pics!

I installed Vintage Air on my 63 Coupe about 5 years ago. It was a fairly big job, which included ducting, glove box modification, moving the alternator (and upgrading to higher amps), new radiator (Dewitts), electric fans in front of radiator, etc...

I think a lot of improvements have been made to the after market AC units designed for the older Corvettes, and have heard that many think the Classic is the better choice.

I am not sure that I would do it to a vert, but in extreme heat areas, it may be a good thing. Good Luck and hope someone can give you some insight on the current models out there.

I think that "BarryK" did a lot of research on these recently, and probably has some good info to share if you can get in contact with him.

My '65 had a heater, but no a/c. During the upgrade of engine, tranny, suspension, and so on, we installed the Vintage Air Sure Fit package designed for the Vette. It is a tight fit, no question, but it has the same interior appearance as the original heat-only system. It also uses the standard dash controls from the heating system. We tucked some of the engine compartment a/c connectors outboard of the battery, under the fender well. I had to move the alternator to the driver side, as the compressor should be on the passenger side.
