65 Mustang (sorry) with a 289 auto that was soooo sloooow. Had this car for 4 months when I decided to buy the vette.
65 vette, 327/250hp 4 speed. Rear tires? ummmm, maybe about 4 sets in the first year.

Hello
I had an old GM truck with 3 on the tree. I got to be fast speed shifting it......until I eventually annihiliated all the little shift pcs in the column( got the shifter stuck up in 2nd, while still in first with the reverse lights stuck on.......long slow drive home)
I then put in a floor shifter

wow, some great stories in here.Sure brings back some great memories. Some of the cars posted,I had forgotten about,,,that I had or friend had. Course when a friend needed help with his ride,,one couldnt ignore it,heck,it was fun and besides, you might be ridding in it next weekend checking out the local dolls.
An older friend owned a local Shell station, and we all bought our gas and as many parts as he had and in exchange he let us use his lift in the evenings. Another friends Dad owned a pool hall and gambling establishment across the street. Used to play pool and the odds machines, too young for poker.
I swear, the movie Christmas Story was a real portrayal of my childhood. At least darn close!

Performance Cars Of Mine
I had a 57 Olds J2, but that was an automatic--it was my first car back in 1964. After that I had a 60 Impala 348/335HP tri power with a 3 speed on the floor--after a few months, I found a T-10 and put it in there--what a difference. Next was a 65 Impala S/S with a 425 HP 396 & 4 speed Muncie, and after that was my first new car---A 68 Impala coupe 427/425 L72 with a close ratio muncie and a 4.10 rear. I paid a whopping $3743 for that car BRAND NEW. I still have pictures of that car, and I will scan and post them as soon as I figure out how to use the brand new Canon MP830 I just bought. After that it was luxury cars for me--I got tired of sweating in the summer.

Two '55 Chevies - 3 speed with Hurst shifter ... Knocked the second gear synchro off a few times.
'68 GTO - 4 speed ..
'69 Z/28 - buddy's car. Given 'permission', I was tempted but reluctant to power shift this car with buddy sitting in the right seat! .

How many here would admit making a wide open power shift from second back to first instead of third? Expecially those of you (us) with the factory Muncie linkage. I don't remember the T-10 being as prone to this.

1st car was a 55 Chevy post 2 door. Liked it soo much bought and built a 55 Chevy Nomad. Jacked it up, dropped in a 327/350 motor, Muncie 4 speed, chromed the front extended spindles and control arms, put on a set of Doug wheel well headers, and 63 Corvette FI and had a ball. Left it in 2-tone primer, dark gray on the body, light gray on the roof. Black tuck and roll Naugahyde interior. Set of American MAGS too. Bitchin wagon!

Not a car but it was my 1st ride.
In 1976 I had a 70 Ford F100 p/u.
It had a 360c.i. with 4 bolt mains, glass pack mufflers and a 3 on the tree. I could bang the gears and speed shift that truck like nobodies business
It never failed to amaze my friends the rubber I could lay in that truck.
And I was able to break the tires loose at about 40MPH shifting
into 2nd gear

Didn't have to shift this one - '51 Ford coupe (in 1959) with a '57 Caddy and Hydra-Matic, set back ten inches; great "sleeper" Woodward car in those days. Note the"quality" sheet metal work inside.

Are we suppose to include the cars that we talked salesman into letting us "test drive" or should they be listed separately
Not counting them my first powershift was in my Uncle John's 65 442 with 4:11's Then came the list mentioned above before getting my 69 383 Roadrunner. After that things heated up a bit with a 69 435 C3 but my 66 L72 was the first car I ever built to powershift.
I still have that car and it is now getting a 496 with TKO 600 as we speak but of course I would never think of powershifting it

First car was a 1956 Ford post with a "Thunderbird" 312 engine, POS, could just barely get rubber from a rolling start going around a corner! Damn thing burned a gallon of oil to each quart of gas Next car was a 1957 Chev Belair 2 door hardtop with a 283 and someone had replaced the automatic with a 3-speed but it still had the automatics rear gears so wasn't much of a go'er. In 1967 I bought a brand new El Camino with the SS396 and 4-speed, could get rubber in all 4 gears, never powershifted that baby! Remember the shipping weight on the barge was 2900 lbs. Next car was a 1966 Chevelle SS396, 4-speed, and a 4.10 rear, powershifted it many times then one evening while showing off to my date (now wife) the clutch pedal stayed on the floor until the rpms came down a bit Ordered a Borg and Beck the next day and put in about a week later, no more pedal stuck on the floor! Have had many cars since then but no powershifts since. The Vette is 46 years old so she deserves to be treated nice

2021 C1 of the Year Finalist - Modified
My first street car was a 66 Mustang convertible burgundy with white racing stripes, it was only a few yrs old but had a tough life. It had a 289 with a 3 spd. Went through 3 engines in 6 months !! I guess maybe it kinda sorta was my fault. I would hold the gas to the floor till the valves just started to float then power shift it !! We did a lot of street racin back then. Oh, to be 16 and stupid again !! Strange, my next car was my 59 Vette and I never blew the engine in it. Just a few trannies. And rears. I think that's why I STILL don't like Ford's.
