Default A.O. Smith bodied 67s vs. St. Louis

Ok, so I thought I read somewhere that A.O. Smith bodied 1967 Corvettes show "67" on the trim tage, yet St. Louis bodied cars showed the calendar year they were built (66 in our case with our very early 67).

Is this true?

Here's what I'm talking about. Here is the trim tag from VIN # 100272, an A.O. Smith car.

And here is our trim tag, VIN # 100182, a St. Louis car.

Also, here's a link to the car for sale right now on eBay. (the car with the top trim tag)

It looks to be a REALLY nice, original 67 with the POP. Very close to our car in features, etc. Also interesting is that our car and the eBay car's motors were both forged in Flint on the same day.

Nope - the year stamped on the trim tag is the MODEL year, not the calendar year. Yours may be a factory typo.

What is the complete vin # on your car? Your vin will probably have a 6 in front of the S. Check and see if your Vin is 194676S100182.

It has a 7 before the S.

After building '66s for a year "Bill" the body tag typer guy took a couple of weeks to get used to hitting the 7. His boss was upset but eventually got over it, unlike the NCRS which didn't exist.

I'm getting my threads mixed up.....................I think.

"Bill" was a union member and could not be fired.

I have an AOS body convertible. Tag looks the same as 100272
My Build date is A24, Body A-0094, VIN 00326. Style 67 467 not 66. Think yours was just an error.
Bill just had a brain fart.

No, but my dad has owned it since 1973, and we haven't touched the trim tag.

That's a long time. Would not think anyone would tinker with the trim tag at that time. Does it have an original vin tag? Could that have been replaced prior to 73? Why don't you post a pic of the vin tag to evaluate?

Yes, it has the original VIN tag (best we can tell). Again, that hasn't been touched during our ownership of the car (since '73). I guess anything is possible, but I'd be really surprised if the trim tag or VIN tag were replaced prior to 73. The body has almost no signs of damage, it has almost all the original fiberglass.

Here's the VIN tag.

In 67, nobody cared. Now the god of car shows must be appeased with documentation.

Suggest you start new thread with the VIN in the title - "Looking for 1966 Vette 194676S100182" and give whatever details you can provide. Anyone seeing it will know what you're looking for instead of it being buried in a different subject. And if somebody googles that VIN they'll find your thread.
