I had several friends at college around 71 or 72 who thought the politically correct thing to do was get out of musclecars and went out and bought RX2 and RX3 rotary cars - I guess because they ran so well for a small car at the time. I remember they were smooth and relatively quick. Seems like one model had a backfire problem during off-throttle though, that took Mazda a while to correct.

I purchased this 70 Monte Carlo when I was 16 in "78" for $600.00. The left side was completly smashed in I put a new Quarter, Door skin and bumped the fender removed some of the trim, blocked and sanded 6 times color sanded 2 times in staight laquer no clear with a blend of Med. and light corvette blue. Changed color of the Interior from blue to black. Installed a 402 BB turbo 400 and It was only in the garage 2 days one for paint and one for the Engine. Drove it every day for 7 years lots of great memorys and sold it to buy my first house.

Bunch of great cars on this thread although I have a real weak spot for the Old Chicago Gasser. In retrospect I was a bit stubborn and stupid as I did not even buy a camera until 1981 (when I was 30)mainly due to my grandfather and grandmother pulling out a camera at every event, big or small. I hated cameras as a result, they took photos or movies of evrything except when we went to the little boys room. Photos of my early cars are few and far between. This photo was to document my first car that my grandfather bought me. He was a collector, liked buying cars, and I had pretty much worn the tires off of my go-kart. This was 1962 when I was 11. It was a homebuilt boattail racer with a Crosley racing engine ( I also had a stock Crosley engine that I would have to insert when the main engine was being repaired). Neat little engines that you could pretty much put under your arm and carry. Still have the car although thanks to my brother and his taking a turn a bit wide (and hitting a parked grader) it is now a bobtail.-Jim

OK, I did some scanning of my old rides.
On the first page of this thread you will find my Nova that I had a real hard time selling. I'm gonna list these in order that I had them.
First 1975 Ford Van! (yeah that was alot of fun )
Next up is the 1972 Nova!
Then my Dad thought I needed this 1981 Camaro!
Then of there's the beloved 1970 Nova SS with my dear wife Jennifer! (which is on the fist page)
My first Vette 1975!
Then the good 'ol 1990 Ford Ranger that my nephew has now. (he's made it into a low rider )
Oh yeah I've had some beaters and some *** bikes but these are the ones that I miss. Well exept for the Camaro

C6 owner, I enjoy looking at these old Vettes (but not these other cars , IMO, they stopped making Vettes in '67, but I digress, I was listening to an old Rush song "Red Barchetta" while looking at these pictures and thought you guys might appreciate some of the lyrics that I wrote down while listening a couple times (with a nod to Neil Peart, who I think wrote them)
Down in his barn My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty-odd years To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris that hides a shining car
A brilliant red barchetta from a better, vanished time
I fire up the willing engine responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel I commit my weekly crime
Wind in my hair, Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music, Adrenalin surge
Well-weathered leather, Hot metal and oil
The scented country air, Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape, Every nerve aware
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud
At the riverside, I Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle, At the fireside
a 63-67 is what comes to my mind, yeah I know Fiat & Ferrari had a model named that, but Barchetta is Italian for an open roadster
