Did a six-way tilt a year ago. took about 3 hours to install. Wish i"d done it 10 years ago. Flaming River... with hot line for problems.

I am assuming that you meant a 6 position tilt and not a 6 way (IE. power seat type of tilt). Did you get the paintable version or the polished stainless? If you got the paintable version, how did it come out when you sprayed it? Also, I have to assume that you used a smaller diameter steering wheel on your car as the one on mine (original diameter) wouldn't allow much of a tilt on the down angle. Can you use the original wheel hub on the column or do you have to get an FR one to replace the original? Thanks for your help.

I used the Flaming River tilt, it fit well and when it is straight it looks like the stock column. I also used my stock hub and a 1973 steering wheel trying to retain the original flavor.

Same here.
looks good and works well. Also swaped out the wheel and installed Steeroids at the same time. Car's got such a better overall feel.

So what you are telling me is that in order to retain the original flavor I would have to change the steering wheel. Is that correct? I would have to hang the teak wheel up on the wall some where to ficilitate the change to the FR column.

I chose a much smaller wheel, but I originally used my standard '67 wheel with the FR column.

Used old hub-fit like a glove. Saved $100. Get the female wire connector(about $10. will save lots of time matching to turn signal wireing that comes in column.) Paintable steel to match int. and save$$$.
Important: 1967 Columns, bracket mount is welded on original column. Mark new column where bracket goes before removing from old column.
I used my original steering wheel.-lower positions do not get use seeing I'm 6'3"..

No you don't need to use smaller wheel, I meant I wanted to use smaller wheel, so I used a 73 corvette wheel instead of a aftermarket wheel. My original wheel fits perfectly ok also, but I use the Jeep steering box and coupled with the smaller wheel it takes on a all new feel.
You also can use your stock hub and save some money plus it looks original. Not that I am in to originality, I just like to use corvette parts when possible and keep as much vintage vette at the same time making improvements for long drives.

Don't know if there is anything actually wrong with an Ididit, but why not buy the one that was prototyped from an actual column and fits perfectly?
Looks like most people did.

Kenmo:
Do what I did. Call Flaming River and get to their sales department. Tell them what you are looking for. Send them your column for a prototype.
The possible problem I see is that unlike the C2 columns the C1 columns include the gearbox. I don't know if they would be willing to make a jointed shaft and either modify the external housing or manufacture an external housing that would replace the original.
In either case they would have to have a column to work with that you didn't need back in original condition.
