Default Oil canister question

Hi
I want to convert my engine oil filter from spin on back to canister (ORIGINAL) type...There are some on Ebay for sale.....The long bolt that goes through the middle is that welded to the canister or can it come out??

Thanks
Peter

I am not him but i do know when my dad bought his 67 convertible orginal 327-300 car. someone put a spin on oil fillter on the motor. well all that did was leak real bad no matter how tight we made it. so he likes the canster type anyhow so he bought one and put it on and all the oil leaks stoped. I my self don't understand why people think it is so hard to change oil with a canster style oil fillter it is about the same as the spin on.

This the reason Im going to back to the oil canister....I cant keep the dam spin off from leaking oil...No matter what I do it ALWAYS leaks ALOT of oil..

when i had a C2 (65), i converted it to a spin-on, but it used a Ford filter. the base of the adapter was just like the canister, but MUCH shorter (maybe an inch high) and fit up into the same place as the canister, using the same seal ring; but the adapter never had to be taken off, so once it was sealed, it was sealed. the ford spin-on then screwed on just like any other spin-on, and didn't leak.

I'm not quite sure why so many people have issues with the spin on adapters. I've had a couple of them and none of them have leaked. The canister was a mess at best and there is a reason GM stopped using them in 68.

If the wrong filters are used, they will leak. My Mr. Gasket adapter calls for a Fram PH-13 filter which only Pep Boys in my area carries. If you look at where it mates the gasket on it is on the outer ring. Some similar size oil filters have the seal ring more towards the center of the filter. which can contribute to a leak, best Scott

The bolt is keeped on by a clip inside the canister (all the way down).

The wife's 2007 Toyota Camry has the cannister type oil filter. I don't understand why they'd go back to that. I do my own oil changes and think it's a PITA, and more chance for leakage or gasket/o ring blow out.

See now I'm an *** because when my good friend Garner tells me that I think dang.... Either way the cannister is a mess and should have stayed in the 60's.
