Default Is the Wave DEAD???

Heading out to the Woodward Dream Cruise (pre-Cruise) last night in my '65 Corvette and I pass another mid-year convertible on a 4 lane highway headed the other way. I waved first (as always) and got absolutely nothing in return. Where's the love?

Scrolling through his Ipod? Emailing on his Blackberry? Sipping his Starbucks? I always wave at midyears and sharks! Save the Wave.

I thought that was for only harleys? I usually just give the finger. Though, I am not driving my corvette yet...

It sure seem that the newer the corvette the less likely you are to get the wave even if you wave first--Heck i wave even in my 55 chevy sedan--Glenn

I posted a similar thread months ago after waving at and being ignored by a C2 convertible, the driver of which looked me right in the eye when passing in the opposite direction at no more than 35 MPH on a two lane road.

Last Saturday, I waved at an approaching early Chevelle and the driver enthusiastically returned my gesture. Even a Jag XK120 acknowledged my wave. A C5 driver did not, even though we had eye contact at a distance of about 15 feet at about 5 MPH. His facial expression conveyed "Why is that guy in the obnoxiously loud car waving at me. Must be a knuckle-dragging hoodlum, driving a 'hot rod' like that."

I know a lot of the "attitude" I run into locally is the nature of what our town has become over the past 25 years or so--definitely a negative evolution. I recall back in the mid to late 50's (and even into the '60's), sports car and VW bug (still not common in those days) drivers would customarily wave or blink headlights at each other.

I'm no therapist (although I could probably use one), but I believe many folks today, including the many image conscious drivers of late generation Vettes, are so inner-directed and ego-driven that it never occurs to them to acknowledge anything "cool" if it's not in their possession or control.

I run into the same thing around here. haven't had the 66 out in years but the newer Vettes were the only ones that never waved to me when i was in it. Not getting a wave from a fellow C2 is just horrible...of course it could have been someone who just bought it at one of thos auctions that will remain nameless. Might not really know much about the Vette other then he likes the way it looks. Its been said on the forum before but it deserves repeating.....there are Corvette people and there are people that drive Corvettes. As long as you did your part that's all that matters

It's a personal choice, not something that is mandatory or expected.

Just the other day, while driving my '65, I came upon a C5 and a C6; the C5 waved enthusiastically, and the C6 looked at me like I was some kind of loser

I wave and get waved back at by almost any kind of classic, from a 58 Buick to the Midyears.

I seldom get a wave from a C5 or C6 unless it's a Z06 model....

I always wave to another Corvette I see when in either one of my cars. Most wave back, some have no clue, some look at you like you have 3 heads. I think the wave is a great thing that inspires comeraderie among owners. However, I stopped waving when I ride my H-Ds because there are WAY too many of them driven by image conscious people.

Next time, wave again from your C2 while hauling your Z06...

Maybe he reads this forum, so he figured when he didnt wave he would start TODAY'S "someone didn't wave at me " thread, complete with obligatory snotty late-model owner and newbies-with-too-much money comments.

Default No wave syndrome

The other driver didn't wave because he was watching his temperature gauge as well as trying to figure out whether the new sound was coming from the rear wheel bearings or the brakes.

I can certainly relate to this hypothesis, although I wave, almost always first!

I get more waves from non-Corvette owners, I dont think they know I'm driving a Corvette.
