Is the Wave DEAD???

Same for me, the VERY EXACT thing, as a matter of fact. A new Z06 passed by when they first came out. He waved first and I returned the salute. Old Chevelle's, etc...I always acknowledge. I don't bother with C5's or regular C6's anymore. I honestly never got a return wave, so that part is dead.

The Wave isn't dead, just held hostage by a lot of C5 & C6 owners.
Many of these Vette are owners are new , or first time Vette owners, and are not interested in Corvette legend and lore. therefore they have no clue why you are waving at them.
I don't think I have ever had a fellow C1 - C4 owner not wave back at me.
I sent an email to Dennis at the C5/C6 Registry that he should put an article in the C5/C6 Registry newsletter about the WAVE.
Never heard back.

If I see them, I wave. If they don't wave back, it doesn't bother me. (I think some of the younger C5/C6 owners (especially women) don't recognize the older cars as being Corvettes)
I have never failed to stop for a Corvette that pulled to side of the road to see if they need help. (Not just when I am in my Corvette)
I think that most of the "Non Wavers" aren't doing so to be rude - they just don't know that it is a common practice or don't see you. A small percentage of owners seem to have some resentment to us C1/C2 owners - think we are rich snobs. (If only they knew) We represent a very small segment of the population that are truly into the Classic car hobby. Some folks (even Corvette owners) just see Corvettes as "another" car.

I own a 2005 C6 DSOM & wave at all Corvette owners. I just saw a C1 this past weekend and we both waved at each other. It was a beautiful thing!
And by the way, there are women Corvette owners who wave!

I think they are looking at their GPS,Bose Stereo, or Heads Up display ..perhaps muttering .... "I wonder what that old car is, and why is the driver waving at us?"

Is the Wave DEAD???
No, the Wave is not dead!! It will only be dead if one personally believes it to be .
To me, it is an honor to give the Wave independent of the response from others. Us old coots remember the magic, legend and lore for the respect we had and have from those good 'ol days. Let the newbies do their stuff ... to h~ll with them as they seem to be a bunch of self-serving snot-nosed kids unaware of who they are and their surroundings .
Giving the Wave makes me feel good ... just do it with sincerity and respect and without reservation!
Oops!! sorry for my little rant here ... I feel better now.

Finally read the thread! To and from Woodward (Ann Arbor arae) we got about 50% response on waves, with Corvettes, old and new. We virtually got 100% with 60's classics! Its not dead, its just for us hard core enthusiasts!

With that said, yesterday [Friday] I was coming home from Carlisle. There was a traffic tie-up right out of the fairgrounds on Rt 11. So for twenty minutes I did an experiment; I waved to every Vette coming the other way.
Results: Every C1, C2, C3, and C4 waved back. Only about half of the C5s and C6s waved back.
So I have to agree with you.
BTW, I was driving my C6.

I was amazed the other day as I waved to a woman driving a C5 and she waved back! That's a first for me. I usually get about 50% waves back from guys, but never before from women. Well, now I can't say never.

In St. Louis 9 out of 10 wave, probably more, I always kind of wait just to see if I will get a wave and if they don't, I do. Very few don't wave back. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm driving the C5 or the 60. People in the midwest are friendly, unless you put your turn signal on before you want to change lanes, then ---- it's nice to be driving either one!

Just about every other day, someone starts a thread about not being waved to. Whatever. In just about 100% of the instances, someone makes the observation that C5 and C6 owners dont wave because (insert opinion here). One observation is that they are newbies that don't know anything about Corvettes. Another observation is that they all have too much money.
My sarcastic comment was about this obnoxious line of thinking. Most of the people in my Corvette Club are C5/6 owners who have owned or do own older Corvettes. I am one of them. I find this generalization annoying.
There are newbies and people who aren't interested in waving with new cars, yes. However, they do not have a monopoly on this behavior. I think there are just as many newbies who own C3s and C4s because of the entry level prices on those cars. Check out some of the threads on their boards and you will agree.
PS. I dont ever wave first, I just wait and return the wave if it comes. Its easier. An Illinois State Trooper waved at me in my '58 today!

Last memorial I went for a drive, and while I was at the stop light I saw a what I think was A 60's GTO . As I passed him I gave him a wave hello. He then lit e'm up half way threw the intersection.
I thought that was cool way to say hello back.
