Also if you use Photobucket, it has a section where you can resize your pics, to a smaller percentage of the original size. Makes it quick and easy for avatar photos.

In my opinion, the easiest way to post a smaller picture is to start with a smaller picture. My camera, a Sony Cybershot, has a choice of 5 sizes. The smallest is 640 x 480 (which they say is best for attaching images to e-mail or creating web pages). The largest is 2304 x 1728 ( for printing images)... So, unless you are taking pictures to print, you are better off to use the smaller size. The quality is not as good with the smaller pics, but it seems to be good enough for posting pictures on websites. Here is an example, shot with the 640 x 480 setting. Not the best resolution, but still presentable. And like 'Johns 65 Vette' said, Photobucket has the capabilities of resizing your pics.

Once you get the photo uploaded , hit Edit, and it will take you to this page.

If your picture is too big you can use this option to shrink it.

Whatever you do, make sure you keep the images on your computer that you upload to a hosting site and save them in an archive or backup; the "free" hosting sites disappear with regularity, frequently with no notice to participants.

Are you aware you can edit your own posts?
The Edit button on an existing post allows you to rework it, try again, etc. You can also use the Preview feature when preparing a new post, to see how it will look.
If this is old information, please ignore me...
