Default Intake Manifold Repair (with Pic's) Winter Project No.2

I pulled the intake off my 67 Coupe tonight so I could determine if it has any problems. From what I can see it has been repaired rather poorly and there may be one or two small cracks.

I searched the forum and the name Jerry MacNeish (http://www.z28camaro.com) comes up serveral times regarding aluminum manifold repair.

If some of you (with more experience than myself) would take a look at these pictures, I would appreciate it. I could use some recommendations as to how serious the repairs will be. Are there any other people you can recommend for repairs?

I also need recommendations on good gasket kits for the carb's.

As always I appreciate everyone's comments.

This is an old repair. It may have a crack & the bolt boss is missing.

I do not know what caused this, but it cannot be good.

I think there is a crack at the back of the bolt boss. When I sprayed WD40 on it while running, the RPM's changed.

It looks like that crack may go to the inside of the manifold.

I searched the forum and the name The inside mark may not be a crack, it may be a casting flaw (I have a 1957 2x4 intake with a similiar mark and it is a flaw in the intake). I am certain that if you get Jerry MacNeish to fix it, he will deal with it 100%. He is the king of intake repairs.

I spoke with Jery MacNeish at Camaro Hi-Performance this morning. I am sending my manifold to him Monday for evaluation and repair. From talking with him it sounds like this is the way to go. Some of his basic costs are; reskinning$125, runner-bolt hole repair $125-$160.

OK, so I tuned into your webcam today right as you were pulling out the windshield. You put on more edge-of-your seat tv than the average horror flick. Maybe you should start your own "Shadetree Corvette Mechanic" show!

Default Intake Manifold is on its way

I packaged and sent my intake manifold to Jerry MacNeish today. He should have it Wednesday. I hope to hear from him soon about what he has to do and what the cost will be.

Like others have said, you will think you have gotten a NOS manifold in return. He fixed a small block manifold of me last year and the repair was undetectable.

I spoke with Jerry MacNeish last night and my manifold goes to his welder Thursday afternoon. It will still be a long 2 weeks till I get it back . I'll have to keep busy with my other little projects.

Just received the bill from Jerry ($422.00). Pretty reasonable considering he did two repairs and reskinned it. I can't wait to see it. It should be here Friday. I'll post pictures of the finished product as soon as it arrives.

Default It's back & looks GREAT!

Just got my manifold back from Jerry MacNeish and all I can say is "WOW" it looks like a new manifold. You can't even see where they did the weld repairs and the re-skinning process is great. I'll let the pictures of the finished job be a testament to Jerry's superb work (Thanks Jerry ).

He's also good at carb rebuilds. Mine looked like it just came out of a box in 1966 when I got it back...correct screws and all.

I was thinking about getting my carbs done on another car. Was it expensive? Do you have a ball park figure and what does this cover.

Got the repaired manifold installed this weekend and it looks (and runs) real good. The weather was clear, dry and in the 40's today so I took it for a short spin. Sure felt good after not running it since January. Here are a few pictures of the finished job. I'll install the distributor shielding later. A friend stopped by today and thought I purchased a new manifold. He was amazed at the job Jerry MacNeish did (thanks again Jerry).
