Default Help pricing 1967 roadster

Hey guys, I need some help. I have a C5 Vert and have owned a C4 and a couple C5's, but don't know anything about C2's. I want to get a midyear roadster and found one that I need help pricing.

Vehicle Info:

1967 Roadster

They claim it was a real 427/390, 4-speed. I have not seen the paperwork to say it really was a 427, but let's assume that for a minute. I'll try to get some proof before I buy it.

Rally Red paint with Black stinger, Black interior, and Black soft top. Correct color combination.

Non-orginal engine. The engine has been changed to a 454, but it looks like a stock 427/390 with the valve covers being correct, carb, etc. Engine might have come from a 72 Vette. But the seriel numbers have been removed from the block or they were never there. So it may NOT be a Corvette engine at all.

Condition is a 3.

The paint is shiney, but it has spots that are pitting and a few small cracks here and there. I could live with it because I want to drive the car. The engine bay is clean, but no where near a show car.

The chrome is nice, not prefect.

The seats are nice. They have new foam, leather, and sit nicely. The dash is clean, but is 40 years old. The carpet is OK, but not perfect. The steering wheel as a small crack in the wood at the bottom (is that normal?). It looks pretty good, but not show quality.

Good brakes, tires, and the frame looks good. Optioned with factory side exhaust, leather, posi, SS brakes, AM/FM radio, seat belts, tinted glass, B.O. aluminum wheels, and white stripe radials.

The wheels are not real, they are repo knock offs. I would ditch them for some Rally Wheels anyway, so I could care less.

They are asking $69k. I think it's over priced, but I want to see what you guys think. I would think a car without the right motor is worth a whole lot less than this price.

Thanks!

- Bill

quick answer - I too think that $69K for a NOM once-was-a 390 hp 67 is overpriced, by quite bit.

Check some of the prices that have sold recently on ebay and check Hemmings for some more pricing information. Don't let the seller quote the B-J auctions as we all know that they are testosterone tests, not vehicle value indicators.

I have to agree with Jack and Paul. $69k for a NOM car seems high, especially in the condition stated.

Agreed, the price is way out of line.

High! Sounds more like a $45-50K car. Especially since it's not even clear if the engine is from a Corvette. Also, how did you check the frame?

Better to get a BB "clone" that has been perfectly restored for that price. With the car you're looking at it's very doubtful it's a "real" 427.

At least the seller of an admited clone would be honest and you would be getting a car in perfect condition.

In my mind, a BB "clone" is every bit as good as a "real" car. The car is concrete. You can see it. You can touch it. You can drive it. It's a Corvette, it's got a 427.

On the "real" cars it's $67,500 for the car and $67,500 for the "documentation".

You can't drive documentation. (but documentation can be faked)

I think you can already see a pattern here. This is high for a NOM vert. For that money, you can find a frame off restored "10" NOM all day, if not for much less.

I picked up my 67 BB NOM coupe (not a vert), 454, new interior, but needed paint and some body work in the $20k's 2 years ago. Now, the prices have gone out of the roof this year, but with NOM, there are some nice cars out there. Keep looking you'll find the right one.

Thanks guys. I figured it was out of line. I think I'll keep looking.

I guess a "BB Clone" may be a better choice. All I really want is a nice car that I can drive. I could care less about the "investment" of a car. They are meant to be driven!

If your dealing with a dealer then the price is to high and they will not move much on the price as they know they will find someone willing to pay. For a private party sale its way over priced as they may be fishing for someone who doesn't know Corvette's but wants one real bad. Either way I would do my homework and research the car and make the seller a fair offer and see what happens. If it's a no sale, at least you'll know what your doing when the next car comes along.
Good luck

too high for a number 3 car. If that cars paint was new, motor, tranny and rear all re-built then I think that the price would be in-line. My car is a NOM Big block and I wouldnt take less than 70K for mine. I know for a fact even if its a NOM BB car and if you re-do it and do it right. 70K is a good deal. I have way more than that invested in my NOM BB right now and I know if anyone was to do it the way I did it they couldnt do it for any less. just my opinion

Thank you all for the advice. I like the idea of buying a really nice small block and possibly upgrading or just enjoy it.

So, anyone know of a real nice 66 or 67 small black that's red?

Thanks again!

By beautiful I assume you mean at least a #2 car, all numbers matching which needs nothing. I'd like to put my order in for two of these please. I'll probably turn them over to Pro-Team for $42k, they'll put it up for $60k and we'll all be happy.

Please forward where I can find these cars. Cash waiting.
