Side pipes, side pipes, side pipes.... I have a 67 with side pipes that I drove 2500 miles from Columbus Ohio to San Diego and had goose bumps all the way across. Every time I start the car I get goose bumps and I've had the car 34 years. GO FOR IT! You don't need a stinking radio with that music but if you have to you can hear it.

K-F, Welcome to the best forum with the best bunch of true Corvette Nuts going and a good book of knowledge. Your car sound like it going to be fun to drive, with emphasis on "drive". We are all looking forward to seeing pictures, that way you can validate your IT expertice.
I have had my 67 for 31 years, of which 30 have been with side pipes...many miles of smiles. Total miles, 195K, w/ 85K with side pipes. Been on many long continious runs of 3 hrs and I have all my hearing per my Dr. I have a high powered stereo system, amp/tape/CD to add to the overall thrill of driving. There is nothing like rowing through the gears with traffic on each side of you. This is common here in Washington, DC/MD. A lot of car may have *********, but side exhaust Vettes have "*****". Why do you think so many C5 owners change exhaust trying to get close to "the sound of side pipes".
A work of caution about undercar chambered system...listen for interior resonance, it can literally give you a headache. I have driven a 71 and I did not like it at all. As a matter of fact, my friend took the system off and reinstalled the original system. As far as the concern for neighbors, that's nice, but it should be no different that the big diesel trash truck or the like rolling through. I leave for work at 6AM from a very close in community with a lot of lawyers and everything is fine. After you enjoy these pipe get some vanity tags...PIPEMAN or NOISY Enjoy, Dennis

Default 67 Side Exhaust (Pictures)

Remember me? It's been several months but my 67 is finaly done! This resto was worst than closing a house...it was origianly supposed to be done in Feb!. Thanks to all who convinced me to add the side exhaust I did (see pics) and it looks great. I am currently waiting for the shipping company to ship my car from Cali to Canada (should be early next week delivery) Then this process will be complete. For anyone needing a good shop in Cali, McJacks Corvette is where my car was restored. From the pics he sent the car looks top notch and the apprasial I had done on it after resto gave it two thumbs up! I will post more when I actually get to touch the car I bought in late December 04.

You will not regret the sidepipes...however, your neighbors may not appreciate them as much as you....

Great looking combo.. I'd ask them to re-plumb your gas line though... Looks like a rubber hose after the pump where they connected your gas filter.. That's a reciepy for disaster...

If my '65 BB had not already had sidepipes on it when I bought it, I would have put them on. I love the look and the sound. Of course, when I drive it for any distance at highway speed, I use ear plugs!

I've put a Keisler 5-speed in it for the Hot Rod Power tour and figure I'll put about 2,600 miles on the car before the event is over. I'm hoping that will keep the car from being unbearable for 10 days!

Default Sidepipes on a 64

I know they weren't available in 63 and 64 but I love Sidepipes! I have been contemplating putting them on my 64. What if any caveats exist getting these in on the 63 and 64s?

Yeah, I can't wait to hear the pipes, the shop owner said they sound nice...I don't know if nice sounds like ear numming thunder or a mellow roar either way I will suck it up because it just looks cool!

I have seen pipes on a 63 & 64 and it looked great on both, haven't heard of any special gothcas for adding them to a pre 65 vette.

Can you please clarify what the risk is having the fuel line in it's current position? I am not very mechanical but if needed I will have it moved.

Thanks.

Glad you like you side pipes, your car looks great. In your orginal question you asked if side pipes would hurt the value of your car, IMO no, however if your car is stock and can be easily restored to orginal condition, you should have fun with the side exhaust but keep your under car exhaust in storage so it can be converted back if needed.
Have fun.

It appears to have an aftermarket fuel filter inserted in the fuel pump-to-carb line with rubber hoses and clamps; that section of line is under pressure, and was all steel with steel flare fittings in the stock configuration. Rubber hoses in a pressurized fuel line aren't a good idea, and if the filter is glass, that's even worse - both are a fire hazard. I'd replace it with the correct all-steel line.

63-64 did not have the keyhole in the frame for the rear sidepipe mount. Not a big issue but that's one thing that has to be done.

I've got sidepipes on my 64 and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The old exhaust pipes \ mufflers were in pretty bad shape so I didn't see a point in saving them, new pipes and mufflers shouldn't be to bad if they have to be purchased to convert the car back to stock.

I heard the all steel line will leak more than the rubber is this correct? Is this a hard thing to change? I am thinking of taking on the project myself and changing the fuel filter and pump-to-carb line when I get the car. Is this a big job?

Steel line connections will not leak if you complete a proper flare job.. A steel hard line and filter is MUCH safer than a rubber hose and plastic/glass fuel filter.. To all you running a rubber hose after the pump... Buy more insurance....

It is sailor proof if you follow the directions it can be done.... The biggest thing is to practice on some junk steel line to get your flares looking good...

I'll post a pic later today my hosting site is down....

OR, just buy the correct repro line and you don't have to fabricate anything.

Yup, nothing wrong with sidepipes, that's for sure. But if you do want to return the car back to under the car exhaust, make sure you keep the original valence panel, the fiberglass tabs cut on both sides, the exhaust bezels, and the exhaust tips (talk to the resto shop to have them saved). While the value for base engine cars won't matter much, big block cars carry a significant advantage if they retain whatever was original to the car when produced (whether side exhaust or not) - but that's not what you have so I wouldn't worry. Enjoy the car - it looks great!

John that's correct too.. I just had to fab up a line in my case with the BG Speed Demon needing a dual line.. I wasn't sure what carb was under there and suspecting since they had a filter installed it wasn't the original carb.. Dave...

Thanks all for your help

I had the shop save the fiberglass pieces removed, orig. valence, rocker panel supports, etc. so I think I should be in good shape.
I will replace the rubber line with a steel one once the car is home. Thanks for the link!
