WTB: Want To Buy an L79 or L36 1967 Coupe
Looking for either a 1967 L79 350 HP coupe or a 1967 L36 390 HP coupe that fits the following description(s):
As you know, I can't run down to the local dealership and special order the 1967 coupe I want, so I have to select from an ever shrinking pool, and subsequently, I have to consider the whole car - including options, condition, color - even if the color is not my favorite. The chances are very low that I'll find my perfect match, so I am simply looking for a special car that best matches most of my wish list above. Chances are that your car won't match my wish list exactly. It's okay. If you have a car that matches most of my wish list items, then I invite you to a dialogue. Let's talk, find out how close we are, and then we can go from there.
Before a purchase is finalized, the WHOLE car (including documentation) will be examined and verified during an inspection (I'll pay for it) performed by a widely recognized and qualified expert.
Thanks.
Brian
- Generally speaking, the more factory installed options the better. With that said, I like to consider the WHOLE car, not just the options. I would prefer a car with Power Steering. Other options like Power Brakes, Air Conditioning, Power Windows, Headrests, Positraction, Shoulder Belts, and Telescopic Steering Column would be nice but not necessary.
- Highly original, as when the car was built (as it left the factory). The more "modifications" and/or non correct parts - the less interested I am. Trim tag changes are absolute deal breakers, as well as color changes to the paint and/or interior. Original born-with numbers-matching drive train is a must. CE or replacement blocks are absolute deal breakers. Fraudsters and restamps will be easily discovered by the experts that are looking over my shoulder.
- Condition: the car can be restored, a show car, a driver, or an unrestored/survivor; but must be finished (can't be a project car). Regardless of the category of car you have (restored, show car, driver, or unrestored/survivor) the car, above all else, must be correct. Does not have to be NCRS Top Flight or Bloomington Gold, but it can be. Solid and rust free frame and birdcage is an absolute requirement.
- Exhaust: original exhaust configuration is desired (see the “highly original” bullet above. I know side pipes are cool, but I don’t have a preference. If the car was born with under car exhaust then that's what I want. If the car was born with side pipes then that's what I want. If the car was born with under car exhaust and was later changed to side pipes I am much less interested in that car. If the car was born with side pipes exhaust and was later changed to under car exhaust I am much less interested in that car.
- Documentation: not only am I interested in buying a car, but I am just as interested in buying its documentation and provenance. I understand the price difference between 2 identical cars - one car with documentation and one car without documentation. To me, documentation is important, but I will consider cars without documentation. Examples of desired documentation are car shipper report, tank sticker (even if it's still on the tank), window sticker, original purchase documents, previous titles, protecto plate (POP), original owners manual(s), pamphlets, maintenance records, prior titles, etc. The car doesn’t have to have ALL of these pieces of documentation and remember I will consider cars without documentation.
- Color: I like silver pearl and all the blues (i.e. Marina blue, Elkhart blue, Lynndale blue) more than any other colors, but as stated above I like to consider the WHOLE car (options, condition, originality, documentation, etc.), not just the paint color.
- Price: I’m not looking for a bargain. In fact, I don’t want a bargain. I don’t want a cheap car. I know the quality and caliber of car that I’m looking for will not be cheap/inexpensive and I am willing to pay a fair price based on the car’s authenticity, options, condition, originality, documentation, etc.

What's your budget? The car you're looking for is probably priced well over 100K; are you prepared to pay that much?

Here are some pearls of wisdom someone once offered another member searching for a car on this forum:
Sir, I would think that you could find a hand full of cars today that match your wish list. In my searching experience (still in the hunt), I've made the following observations:
Good luck in your search.
Hope you find this helpful.
Sir, I would think that you could find a hand full of cars today that match your wish list. In my searching experience (still in the hunt), I've made the following observations:
- You will find that few sellers will willingly provide you with all the pre-purchase qualifications you want (you know, the kind where you ask for basic pictures, documentation, etc.).
- It's also been my observation that many of those sellers that are unwilling to provide your requested information typically have a reason for not providing it to you.
- There is a lot of deception (bordering on fraud) out there.
Good luck in your search.
