Wanted - my 62 black Vette back
I had a 1962 Corvette, black with red interior and sold it in Ontario Canada years ago for $3000.00. I would give anything (almost) to find that car again and buy it back. I would most certainly pay a premium over any similar condition 62 Vettes. I know this is a crazy thought that it is out there and someone reading this has it - but thought I would try anyway. It was a four speed, black/red and I am not quite sure the engine but I think it was at least the 300 or 340HP. Anyone? know anyone?

where or who did you sell it too, do you have the serial #, how long ago? It may have gone thru Legendary Motors, no black '62's around here ....

Thanks - I will check that out right now. I just think that if someone knows the history of their black/red 62 Vette - and it came from Ontario, Canada, that there is a srong possibility it could have been mine. Here is why - rounded and estimated numbers - there were 14,500 62 Vettes - usually 10% goes to Canada - so just about 1,450, and then of those less that half to Ontario = about 700 - and of those, how many were black with a red interior?? Very few - so I think I can find it if anyone can trace the ownership back to Ontario, Canada. I have pictures and the licenese number for 1965 - but I have yet to find the serial number! Fingers crossed someone with a black/red 62 will write back..

Unfortunately - I don't have the name of the person I sold it to, but I think I would remember the name if I was told. I am still searching for the serial number - but I sold it before 1970, so that is a long time ago.

I guess I am pretty naive then. Using my math, I calculate there were only about 150 1962 Corvettes that were black with red interior in Ontario in 1965 and never thought of them being exported around the world? I thought this might be a lot easier?

Well if we just take your figure of 150 black/red 62's in Ontario, and say only 20% of those survive, that means there's 30 cars out there that meet that description. Are you going to buy the first of the 30 you come to? How do you tell WHICH of those 30 was yours, or if maybe yours was in the 80% that no longer exist? And maybe that black/red '62 is now silver with black interior or something like that.
You HAVE to find a VIN to help your search.
The other thing to ponder - did you do ANYTHING to that car which might be traceable if it was in front of you? For example, 40+ years ago I drilled a couple small holes in the bottom of the dash on my '67 to mount a switch. If confronted with a '67 I THOUGHT was mine (granted, I do have the VIN) if I found those 2 holes were still there it would be extra proof so to speak.
Of course stuff like that can be removed or repaired through the years but it's something to consider.

Is your motor registry any help? Would they have records of your cars on microfiche or something?

Good question - two reasons.. The 58 was white/red and I preferred the black/red and bigger engine and best looking of the C1 if not all Corvettes. But also that 58 was parked in front of my girlfriends house in 1963 and got hit in the left rear so hard that I was picking up pieces of fibreglass 100 ft away. It took 5 weeks at the shop to repair and I was never happy the way it sat after that. I may have been wrong - but always seemed to be higher on the left side? That is why I traded it on the 1962. But you have my curiousity? Can a 1958 be traced?
