Default Kumho MX almost bald, Does that mean less traction?

My Kumho mx tires are almost bald. Seems to me that I can't go as fast as when they were new. Is that because they have gone through many heat cycles and they don't get as sticky? This is for dry conditions only. Thanks. Steve

Yes. Less tread depth can mean a faster tire, but only if the rubber is new
(this is why they shave new tires for the track). Old tires (lots of heat in them) are harder than new tires and the hardness more than offsets the lack of tread depth = less traction.

when mine got down to the last little bit of tread they got real greasy, slidy feeling. I was hoping more rubber on the road, more grip, it diddnt work out that way. time to buy more tires.

Heat cycles and most constructions tend to have harder rubber at the bottom.

If you attend track events and want to travel on the same tires you use at the track, try the victoracers...they are completely streetable and will perform well at the track. My buddy drives a couple hundred miles to the track and back with them. Street tires will never give you the feel you are looking for under any circumstance.
