Hey racers... how often do you change your tranny/dif fluid and oil?
I have Amsoil syn ATF and the GM syn in the rear. I changed the ATF in October and the Dif fluid in July. How often does it need to be changed with track use? I ran 7 20-30 minutes sessions this weekend and never once saw the trans temp warning.
My oil had about 2000 miles on it so I really didn't have any reason to change it. I saw high 260's oil tems running today, but nothing super extreme. Should I just make sure I change it out before my next event?

Use only the highest quality synthetics and change the trans and rear about every 5 events, and the engine oil every 2 events. That's my practice, but I'm sure there are many other opinions. :D

If the tranny does not get hot "high trans temp" I change it every 5k if I have any track use on the car. I change the diff at the same time.
If the tranny gets hot, I change it within a week. Again I change the diff at the same time.
Same for the oil. If the temp is 265-270 at the track I change it at about 5k miles. If the oil gets 280+ I change it when I get home or sometime that week.
If no track use on the car I change the tranny/diff every 10k miles.

wow.. all of this seems a little obsessive doesnt it?
to think that synthetic oil is 'ruined' and needs to be changed immediately if it get over 280 degrees?
do redline and mobil one actually break down that fast?

2-5 events is over-kill for a trans or rear gear oil change. And a quality synthetic gear oil doesn't breakdown at 280 degree. Particles in fluid are more harmful, and the reason for a more frequent interval, unless you are running a filter.

10k miles and one track day on this diff fluid at Road Atlanta in Nov. Oil never got over 265* that day.
I changed the tranny fluid at the same time and it looked pretty good.

Do you have a magnetic drain or fill plug? I have always used one in the rear gear case and trans of all my prevoius performance cars. My current car has one for the rear gear case, but not the ZF trans. I plan to eventually install one, but of course, it still won't collect any syncho mesh gear particles and therefore, the need to replace fluid at certain intervals.

I put between 5 to 7 hundred track miles on a year. I change the oil at 4K miles which is about once/year. Last year the oil temp in my Z hit 319 several times over the period of 2 days at Watkins Glen. I did not change that oil out until November. I have never received a transmission temp warning. As for tranny and diff fluids I change them every couple of years.

Is 319 engine or trans temp? I do what you do, except run 319 temps. I have never seen over 250 degree temps (up to 100 air temp) in any of my oils. Water temp went to 265 once in the pits after shutdown, but my system was stock at the time and I was shifting higher than normal (7200). System is not stock any more and I shift at 6000 typically. For those interested, there are kits available or lab services that can check oil particles etc.

Re: Hey racers... how often do you change your tranny/dif fluid and oil? (ZR1 MK)
The 315 was engine oil temp. I did not set off the Z06 trans temp warning. However, the trans was probably over 190 degrees. When I ran my 97 with the GM tranny cooler the tranny mounted thermostat would turn the cooler on when the tranny case temp hit 190. At Watkins Glen that meant it turned on after 3 laps of using about 50% 3rd gear and 50% 4th gear. On the highway it would turn on after an hour or so of 70 mph driving in 6th.

Z06 does not come with auto tranny if thats what you ment.
The "high trans temp" warning on the dic does not come on till 270*f

315 oil temps are on the far edge of melting down. About 290 should be about the edge. DRM has a solution to your cooling needs. Check out are GP on are EOC radiators.

I'll take a seat of the pants guess here. I would like to see a motor dyno at 319. When my motor got hot before all the DRM cooling gizmo's ;) The motor seemed to fall on it's face and lose power. Keep going to 319 and I'll be behind you with a broom  Been there done that, for a while

Griot's garage has a BIG syringe/transfer pump that makes filling the tranny and diff easy. About $50 and German made. Look at their catalog/site for the big syringe looking thing.
