Duct cooling hose mount pic idea's
This is what I wantto get for the C5 this is for a M3 but the idea is the same.
What do you think? I mounts the hose right next to the rotor as I saw on some race trucks at Pocono. http://hms-motorsport.com/newstore.p...3&sub=402#1240

Re: Duct cooling hose mount pic idea's (John Shiels)
John,
I helped a guy put a set of these on his C4 about 8 years ago. I think they were made by Morrison Motor Sports in Albany, GA. Basically, the ducts were shaped so they fit the cavity at the center of the rotor and were held in place by the wheel bearing mounting bolts. They had a hose fitting coming out at an angle that cleared the various obstructions you have near the wheel when it is turned from side to side.

I fabricated an aluminum backing plate to mount my 4" duct to. I am thinking about making these for OEM rotors, and letting you guys try them out. The big issue is that you need to remove the wheel bearing, and mount the plated BETWEEN the bearing and spindle, where the little mini-backing plate that holds the ABS harness is. When I get time, I'll measure up and cut a set for OEM rotors and 3" hose. They won't be pretty, but they will give a good seal to the center of the rotor.
Anybody intersted in trying them? You'll have to make your own ducting to the area.

David,
I've been looking into this and have some good 3" hose to use. I would be interested. I am concerned about rubbing on the ABS wire with wheel movement. Have you had any problems with this?

That is where something like DRM's kit should come in handy. In the past, I have used 4" duct, but "squashed" it to reduce rubbing. With OEM body work and 3" ducting, you should be able to squeeze it down through the sway bars and produce a nearly contact free route for the hose. My current plan is to run 4" ducting INTO the frame rails, then out under the shock mount straight to the rotors. No chance of rubbing then.

Dave,
How do you get the ducting into the frame rails?

:withstupid: Yes- how? This would be perfect solution to running all the way through the wheel well.

I'm not cutting a hole in my frame  , but I'll try anything else.
The front left and right small flexable air dams are good places to pick up additional air, and as long as you keep the hose (mine is 2.5") far enough inboard, you will have plenty of tire clearance and route the hose around the back of the shock and point it directly at the calaper. Believe me it works great. :D

Dave we are considering using the front stub on our 67 Camaro to conduct air for front brakes. Light metal on sides to cover the usual holes and drill 1/8- 3/16ths hole in front of coil spring tower to fill with foam to block air from just passing through. Hole saw frame to attach hose. Have not solved front hook up yet as we have a one piece tilt front end with a large air dam. The idea of using a frame makes a lot of sense to me.
