Default 295 vs 315 A052's for rears on a C5Z

The recommended 315's are on back order at the Tire Rack and were scheduled to arrive about now. They texted and said the due date is now 8/8 and that's pushing it, if they don't show up I'll be up the proverbial poo creek for the SCCA nationals.

Has anybody tried the 295/35/18's on the rear? Realize that it may take some setup mods to get to work but i can stiffen the front bar if necessary but curious if anyone has tried it and what setup changes they had to make. The 295/30 are too small in diameter in addition to being skinny but the 35's are bigger in diameter so that's a help. Yes you're giving up an inch of tread width, but the Z isn't heavy so I was thinking it might be a possibility.

This kind of thing it totally dependent on the tire, it might work just fine or it might be waste and it's impossible to tell unless someone has tried it.

The 295 Yoks actually work better on the 10.5” wheel than the 315s. They have super flex sidewalls and the 315 really needs a 12” to shine.

Thanks, that's the kind of input I was looking for. I'll call Tire Rack in the morning and change my order. As you've noted there are a lot more things to consider than just width. When i was running RX-7's the 175 Yoks worked better than the 185's or 205's for some reason. When the Solstice was a hot car in stock they were running a tall 275 tire and you wouldn't have thought that would work as it was way over the width that was recommended for that wheel, but because of the tall height it worked. Every tire is different on every car and unless you test you never know. You need "enough" tire and more doesn't usually buy much more grip. To use the fatter tire you generally need to drop pressures and the response can get really "rubbery" . It's one of those things that what works, works, and you don't have to know exactly why.
